As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been appointed as the President of Film at Lincoln Center, a role previously held by Daniel Battsek in his tenure as former Film4 chairman. This is an incredible opportunity to contribute to the world of cinema!
Commencing on May 1st, Battsek is set to steer the strategic course for the company that manages the New York Film Festival.
Or,
From May 1st, Battsek will be leading the strategic path for the organization responsible for the New York Film Festival.
Both sentences convey the same meaning but have slight differences in structure and emphasis.
After the 2024 New York Film Festival, Lesli Klainberg relinquished his position as president of the nonprofit cinema arts organization, and he was subsequently succeeded in this role by an individual who took on the leadership duties.
Toby Battsek served as director and later chairman of Film4 between the years 2016 and 2024. During this period, he oversaw the creation of several critically-acclaimed, award-winning movies including “The Zone of Interest”, “Poor Things”, “All of Us Strangers”, “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “The Favourite”. He relinquished his position as head of Film4 in 2024.
From 2018 onwards, Battsek has held the position of chairman for Film London. Previously, he held various leadership roles spanning over three decades. These include serving as president at National Geographic Films, president of filmed entertainment at Miramax, and a lengthy tenure as executive vice president and managing director for UK distribution and European production and acquisitions at Buena Vista International, U.K. During this period, he was responsible for distributing 18-25 films per year from Walt Disney Studios and its partners such as Pixar and Miramax.
I feel incredibly privileged to be chosen to head up Film at Lincoln Center, a world-renowned symbol of film culture,” Battsek stated. “My aim is to use the expertise and insights I’ve accumulated during my career in the film industry to strengthen and enhance FLC’s programming, goals, and identity. For a long time, I’ve admired FLC as an essential part of New York’s cultural landscape. I am deeply proud to now be in charge at such an inspiring point in cinema history.
Daniel H. Stern, chair of the board of directors at Film at Lincoln Center, stated, “Daniel Battsek’s extensive background in leadership, deep ties within the global film industry, and evident love for cinema and our mission make him the perfect choice to lead Film at Lincoln Center, particularly during this period of significant transformation in the film sector. After a thorough global search involving seven board members and recruitment firm Stanton Chase, Daniel stood out among a strong group of candidates, ultimately being chosen unanimously for this role. With two years of record attendance at the New York Film Festival, widespread praise for its ongoing programs, and a new multiyear partnership with Rolex—a longtime patron of cinematic arts excellence—Film at Lincoln Center has the opportunity to broaden its influence, programming, and brand in an ever-changing film industry landscape, both within the U.S. and internationally. We are thrilled to have Daniel on board and look forward to assisting him as he maps out a visionary future for Film at Lincoln Center.
