The character portrayed by in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been remarkably successful. As the final episode draws near, she, who brings to life the formidable and merciless Vanessa Fisk, shed light on a unique perspective of her character. She explained that unlike other characters, Vanessa doesn’t share the same views, thereby revealing the underlying theme that subtly unfolds throughout the series. It might seem that all MCU productions revolve around adult superheroes battling to save the world in their unique ways, but according to Zurer, “Born Again” tackles a subject matter far removed from this notion.
Vanessa Fisk’s journey hasn’t been free of difficulties, but more recently, she’s demonstrated an equal capacity for danger as her spouse. This intriguing and layered character is exactly what makes her a captivating role for Zurer, and it’s the depth of these complexities that Daredevil: Born Again aims to explore. As the actress explained to George Edelman from MovieWeb:
She has a unique way of thinking, unlike any human I’ve encountered. In some ways, she reminds me of a lion tamer, managing [Fisk] with finesse. Yet, there’s a methodical and emotional side to her, suggesting a protective instinct for something deeply vulnerable within her. This complexity makes her intriguing, a multi-faceted character that keeps things interesting. Moreover, the show’s themes add depth, delving into the struggle between one’s true nature and the fight against it, making for a thought-provoking narrative. It’s not about superhuman powers; it’s about the human condition, which makes it incredibly engaging.
Vanessa Fisk Was Responsible for a Character Death That Outraged Fans
In the series titled “Daredevil: Born Again,” the story commences with the tragic demise of Matt Murdock’s longtime friend, Foggy Nelson (portrayed by Elden Henson). This unfortunate incident occurred when Foggy was shot by Benjamin Poindexter, also known as Bullseye (Wilson Bethel). However, this event and Bullseye’s subsequent imprisonment were not the main focus as the narrative progressed. Instead, it revolved around Matt Murdock struggling with his desire to resume his crime-fighting activities under the persona of Daredevil, while Wilson Fisk was still expanding his empire. Moreover, a new character named Muse emerged, assuming a villainous role in the unfolding events.
In contrast to what many had thought, it turned out that Vanessa Fisk was the one behind Foggy’s assassination, a revelation made in Episode 8. As Matt continues his investigation, Bulleye reappeared with an attempt on Wilson Fisk’s life, leaving more truths about this situation to be explored in the last two episodes of the season coming up next week.
During Vanessa’s recent interview, there seemed to be a suggestion as to why she may have arranged Foggy’s death – it could be out of love for her husband. Zurer noted this point.
In this current phase, there’s a doubt about trust on both sides, which seems to overshadow everything else. Essentially, their actions revolve around this uncertainty. Yet, beneath the surface, there is undeniably love. I don’t believe she acts out of ambition or power hunger; rather, I think Vanessa does things for something more profound and meaningful – perhaps seeking security.
As a devoted follower, it’s evident that Vanessa will stop at nothing to safeguard the Fisk partnership and the power it yields. Her potential reasons for orchestrating Foggy’s demise remain unclear, but one thing is certain: the survival of this partnership and its associated influence are her top priorities.
