Daredevil: Born Again Introduces a New MCU Superhero?!

🔔 Heed this note, fellow enthusiasts: The intriguing twists in the Daredevil: Born Again episodes “With Interest” and “Excessive Force” lie just ahead! Enjoy the suspense, but be mindful of potential spoilers. 📺🌟

Calling the initial four episodes of Daredevil: Born Again dull would be utterly misleading. The series kicked off with Bullseye slaying Foggy Nelson, then continued with Matt Murdock defending Hector Ayala in court and reconnecting with The Punisher – all in the first half, keeping viewers hooked. Although it didn’t introduce groundbreaking changes, I found myself amused by the scene where Wilson Fisk had to endure kids singing “We Built This City” off-key.

Nevertheless, the recently aired episodes on the 2025 TV lineup escalated things significantly, featuring several significant events, such as Matt reappearing as Daredevil in his suit once more. While it’s exciting to delve into all that, I feel compelled to discuss first the new Marvel superhero subtly introduced, who appears to be someone MCU fans might already be familiar with.

It Looks Like Swordsman Has Made His MCU Debut

In the second episode titled “Excessive Force” from the freshly released series Daredevil: Born Again, which you can access via Disney+, opens with a montage featuring BB Urich conducting interviews across New York City. During one of these conversations, she was shown a video depicting a masked swordsman overpowering some rough street thugs.

In 1965’s Avengers #19, the character known as Swordsman first appeared, and after six decades, there’s been a live-action portrayal of him, though it’s not completely confirmed who’s wearing the mask. If the original storyline is being adhered to, then the individual brandishing that sword could very well be the Hawkeye character who reappeared in this particular episode.

In “Excessive Force,” Wilson Fisk later attended an event to mingle with New York’s high society and pitch his idea of rebuilding the city’s port. Unfortunately, he didn’t convince them effectively, but Tony Dalton’s character, Jack Duquesne, took it a step further by expressing his concerns about the new mayor’s changes in the police department and his preoccupation with vigilantes to the newly-elected official. He argued that these changes were unlikely to succeed and that the port project didn’t fit their agenda. Jack cautioned Fisk not to underestimate the people at this event, as they could easily sabotage him by making a simple phone call.

It’s possible that Jack, who appears as an ordinary wealthy man with a penchant for showing off his wealth, might actually be the Swordsman from the comics in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Given his heroic actions in helping Kate Bishop fight the Tracksuit Mafia after being framed by Eleanor Bishop on Hawkeye, it seems reasonable to assume that he possesses special abilities.

It would be unusual for Tony Dalton to reprise his role if someone else were playing the Swordsman. With Jack already showing signs of a good character, it feels like we might be seeing him take up the mantle of the Swordsman soon. Let’s hope for an unmasking scene that confirms this theory!

The Other Big Events From Daredevil: Born Again’s New Episodes

One significant twist in the latest installments of Daredevil: Born Again was the reappearance of Jack Duquesne, the skilled swordsman. In “With Interest,” Matt Murdock thwarted a robbery at a bank led by Devlin, who was working under Luca, a henchman directed by Buck Cashman, one of Wilson Fisk’s trusted associates. Luca had been ordered to pay $1.8 million in restitution to rival crime boss Viktor. With the assistance of Yusuf Khan, the assistant bank manager and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel’s father, Matt managed to swap out the diamond that Devlin and his gang attempted to steal, keeping it securely within the bank.

With Disney+, you can enjoy the latest episodes of Daredevil: Born Again as they air, as well as virtually all content from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This exciting collection is available to stream starting at just $9.99 per month with their new ad-supported plan. If you prefer an ad-free experience, you can opt for a monthly fee of $15.99 or save 16% by pre-paying $159.99 annually. Take advantage of this offer now!

Regarding “Excessive Force,” not only did the Swordsman storyline and Luca refusing to pay Wilson Fisk $1.8 million play a part, but also Fisk brutally attacking Adam, who was having an affair with Vanessa. Moreover, the Muse subplot was brought into focus. Initially, the serial killer had been relatively inactive during the first four episodes of “Born Again.” However, when it was revealed that the murals appearing around NYC were painted using human blood, Fisk became aware of his presence. This led to the formation of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, which included Detective Powell and ex-detective Cole North among its members.

More Daredevil: Born Again Coverage

As a passionate movie buff, after the latest revelations about Charlie Cox illuminating Bullseye’s comeback and Jon Bernthal’s initial scene reappearance in Daredevil: Born Again, I find myself eagerly looking forward to revisiting the first four episodes of this captivating series.

Jon Bernthal Highlights Crucial Distinction Between Frank and Matt in Daredevil: Born Again, Which He Believes Contributes to the Remarkable Nature of the Punisher.

At a particularly unfortunate moment for Matt, he resumed his role as Daredevil for the first time since Foggy’s passing, driven by the news that Angela del Toro, Hector Ayala’s niece and potential new White Tiger, had vanished. After Matt declined to assist her, she had taken it upon herself to look into the missing individuals that Hector had been investigating, which ultimately resulted in her being kidnapped by Muse. Luckily, Matt managed to locate Muse’s hideout within a subway tunnel using his heightened senses.

In the heat of a fierce confrontation between Daredevil and Muse, I found myself caught in a whirlwind of action. Though Daredevil ultimately prevailed, Muse managed to slip away during a crucial moment when Matt Murdock was attending to Angela, who had been freed from those dreadful blood-draining devices. Now, Muse continues his reign of terror, creating more havoc through his twisted art. I fervently hope that Matt can track down this menace soon, as he’s exactly the right person to put an end to such a dangerous threat and restore peace on our streets.

In the final four episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, don’t fret about it being a one-time Marvel show. Instead, take comfort in knowing that filming for Season 2 has already started, and actor Matthew Lillard is among those cast in yet-to-be-revealed roles. Furthermore, the showrunner Dario Scardapane hinted to Entertainment Weekly in February that the departure of Muse will create a ripple effect that reaches beyond just this season.
