Daredevil: Born Again Will Feature the Most Brutal Action Ever in the MCU, Producer Promises

As a longtime fan of the gritty and brutal world of Daredevil, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of “Daredevil: Born Again.” Having grown up on comics that didn’t shy away from the darker aspects of superhero stories, I’ve always appreciated the original series for its unapologetic approach to violence. The thought of an R-rated Daredevil series has been a tantalizing promise since Disney and Marvel Studios announced their plans for the character.

The upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again” series promises to venture into grittier, more graphic territories within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, capitalizing on its R-rating. As per Marvel Studios Head of TV and Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, the new series will surpass the violence level of the original “Daredevil” series, which was already known for its intense, brutal scenes. Charlie Cox reprises his role as Daredevil, a character who previously displayed some of the most gruesome fight sequences and instances of torture in a comic book adaptation. Initially, fans were apprehensive when Disney and Marvel Studios announced they’d continue the character’s journey on Disney+, fearing a softening of the violence. However, it seems that “Born Again” is pushing boundaries

In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, producer Brad Winderbaum shared insights about Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ lineup, which includes titles like Agatha All Along and Marvel Zombies. The R-rated violence in the series Daredevil: Born Again has been a hot topic among fans, with the show’s cast also contributing to the conversation. Winderbaum offered his thoughts on this, assuring fans that Daredevil: Born Again will not only meet their expectations but exceed them. He elaborated, stating:

“In Daredevil: Born Again, you’ll witness some of the most intense, hard-hitting action we’ve ever presented on screen. It’s not a horror series, but it carries a strong punch and is filled with impactful, raw action scenes.”

Jon Bernthal & Vincent D’Onofrio Claim Daredevil: Born Again Is More ‘Extreme’

Ever since Disney confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again would preserve the original show’s R-rating, this decision has sparked much conversation among fans. It’s not just Winderbaum who has eased fan concerns about Born Again being violent and gritty; nearly every cast member has addressed similar questions during interviews. At D23, where the first trailer for the upcoming series was unveiled, Jon Bernthal (the actor behind The Punisher in the original series and his own spin-off) hinted that Born Again will surpass the original in terms of intensity

At D23, Vincent D’Onofrio, known for portraying the show’s most brutal character alongside The Punisher, echoed similar sentiments as his co-star regarding the level of violence in “Born Again.” D’Onofrio hinted that certain aspects of the new series will surpass the violence we saw in the original, stating that some parts will venture “much further…”

“I find it hard to believe that a specific trait of my character was kept during the editing process.”

Daredevil: Born Again
premieres on Disney+ in March 2025.
