As a die-hard Bones fan since its very first episode aired, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia every time I see David Boreanaz sharing throwbacks from the series. With Booth and Brennan being two of the most iconic TV duos ever, it’s hard to let go of them even after seven years.
It’s been more than seven years since “Bones” concluded, yet I find myself continually reminiscing about this captivating series. Featuring David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel in lead roles, the show revolved around FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth and forensic anthropologist Temperance “Bones” Brennan, who joined forces to crack cases by examining the remains of murder victims. Even though their case is long resolved and Boreanaz has been busy with “SEAL Team” for the past seven years, he’s still preoccupied with this Fox procedural, and I too miss it dearly.
Almost as soon as Bones ended, Boreanaz turned his sights to CBS for the military drama, but you can’t help but to miss him as Booth. Now, while SEAL Team’s series finale is right around the corner, Boreanaz is looking back at his time on Bones by sharing a fun throwback with Deschanel on Instagram, and it’s really making me nostalgic:

This episode harkened back to the Wild West era, specifically Season 11’s “The Cowboy in the Contest,” where Brennan and Booth disguised themselves for a vintage Old West-style shooting contest. Although they weren’t physically in the Wild West, their attire and surroundings made it feel that way. Despite Bones generally being a serious show, it was always entertaining to watch Booth and Brennan squabble and find themselves in such unconventional predicaments.
Reflecting on this throwback, given David Boreanaz’s departure from SEAL Team, I find myself pondering – might there be a chance for a Brennan and Booth reunion in the future? Some may argue that Bones, with its 12-season run and perceived loss of direction towards the end, could be considered overextended. Yet, the possibility of a reboot or revival remains intriguing.
2023 saw creator Hart Hanson sharing his musings on the potential return of Bones, acknowledging that it’s a complex situation due to a contract between Disney and 20th Century. Yet, he hinted at ongoing discussions about a fresh series, implying that anything could be possible in the future.
It’s evident that Bones continues to hold a significant place in David Boreanaz’s heart, and probably Angela Deschanel’s too. Although another series may not be in the works immediately, I hope they maintain their close bond and meet often. Perhaps they could reenact the iconic Wild West scene, costumes included, especially around Halloween when it would fit perfectly. At a minimum, I wish Boreanaz would keep sharing interesting behind-the-scenes glimpses from his time on the show, as it’s enjoyable to reminisce.
A period of seven years may not appear lengthy initially, but it certainly can feel so. As for whether a fresh installment of the TV show “Bones” is being developed, that remains unclear. However, fans might anticipate seeing both new and vintage images from the series on social media platforms. And should they wish to watch the Fox procedural, they can do so with a Hulu subscription.
