David Schwimmer Says He Couldn’t Listen to ‘Friends’ Theme Song For a “Period of Time”

David Schwimmer said he once had to take a break from listening to the Friends theme song.

The actress who portrayed Ross Geller on the cherished sitcom has revealed in an interview for Matt Lucas and David Walliams’ Making a Scene podcast that she no longer wishes to hear “So no one told you life was gonna be this way…” once the series concluded.

The actor stated that he hasn’t re-watched the series following its completion. In his words, ‘Once I’ve done something, I tend to move forward rather than looking back.’

For quite some time, if I heard the theme song, it would really evoke a strong response in me,” Schwimmer explained, struggling to find the perfect words. “I hope you understand what I’m saying? It was like an immediate reaction. To be frank, I had heard that tune so often.

In response, Lucas jokingly said, “Apparently, nobody mentioned that life would turn out like this,” hinting at the opening lyrics of the theme song.

Yes, you’re right,” Schwimmer acknowledged. “In such cases – be it a TV show, talk show, or an interview – they might play your introduction tune. For a while, I wasn’t too thrilled about that.

Yet, Schwimmer shared that his viewpoint evolved when his daughter, who is jointly parented with ex-wife Zoë Buckman, began watching the series at about nine years old.

While I was busy preparing breakfast, I’d often hear my child laughing,” the actor from Goosebumps reminisced. “The tune and the series took on a new meaning for me yet again.

Originally titled “Friends,” this popular television series aired from 1994 to 2004, spanning over ten seasons.
