DC Studios Doubles Up on Alan Tudyk as Batman Villain Clayface

As a movie buff who has seen more DC films than I can count (and let me tell you, that’s saying something), the news about Alan Tudyk playing not one but two villains in the new DC Universe has me absolutely thrilled!

Every day, the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) is becoming clearer and clearer. James Gunn, the director and co-captain of the DCU, has been gradually revealing snippets from the upcoming movies to the audience, such as hints about the first Superman trailer. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to experience Gunn’s new universe, as his first official DCU project, Creature Commandos, is set to debut soon, with the premiere scheduled for December 5. Additionally, a recent interview with the cast of that series may have revealed the actor who will portray a villain in live-action Batman, a character that has been long-rumored.

In a thrilling chat with Perri Nemiroff from Fandango, I shared some exciting insights about my upcoming roles – voicing Clayface, the enigmatic Batman villain, in the animated series Harley Quinn, and bringing a character to life in Creature Commandos! Since Clayface has yet to grace our screens in live-action, fans can’t help but speculate who will don the role. I can hardly contain my excitement!

When Nemiroff inquired from Tudyk about his experience portraying Clayface in two distinct productions, Tudyk expressed gratitude towards Gunn for providing him with the chance to play the character more than once. This suggests that he may continue playing the role in the DCU in future projects.

“What makes DC fascinating for me is the chance to portray the same character in two distinct manners, and I find both versions enjoyable. It was a delight when James gave me the opportunity to play Clayface; I had planned to ask him about it, but he surprised me by including it in the script.

It is speculated that Clayface might show up in “The Batman Part II,” but it’s important to note that Matt Reeves’ DC universe is distinct from Gunn’s mainline DCU. This means there won’t be any shared casting between the two productions. Since Gunn values continuity in his casting across animated and live-action projects, Alan Tudyk, who currently plays Clayface in an animated series, might take on the role again in a future DC movie, but not necessarily in “The Batman Part II.

Alan Tudyk Is Playing More Than One Villain in the New DCU

As a cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but be thrilled about Alan Tudyk’s versatile acting skills and his expansive role in the DC Universe. He doesn’t just stick to one character; he’s both the returning Clayface and the newcomer Dr. Phosphorous in the upcoming series Creature Commandos. Interestingly, Sean Gunn is taking on not one but two roles in this show – Weasel and GI Robot.

During the interview, Tudyk emphasized the contrast between the two animated versions of the shape-shifting character, and it was certainly entertaining to alternate between them.

In the show “Harley Quinn,” I portray other DC villains, and it’s quite humorous. It’s purely comedic, while this role is a drama with comic undertones, featuring action, drama, and emotion. In this series, I play Clayface, who is far from intelligent. Interestingly, in this storyline, Clayface transforms into a lethal adversary. We have an intense confrontation, and he’s a ruthless murderer.

Despite keeping quiet about many details regarding his upcoming movie lineup, Gunn didn’t hesitate to debunk rumors that Lex Luthor would appear in the film titled Creature Commandos.
