Deadpool & Wolverine Helped Nathan Fillion Break a Marvel Record

Deadpool & Wolverine Helped Nathan Fillion Break a Marvel Record

As a lifelong cinema enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of superhero films from their humble beginnings to the cinematic juggernauts they are today, I must say that Nathan Fillion has become a true marvel (pun intended) in this genre. His versatility and knack for portraying characters with depth and charm have made him a firm favorite among fans.

Certain actors, such as Chris Evans and Gemma Chan, have portrayed two characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Notably, MCU stalwart Nathan Fillion, who has made appearances in both Deadpool and Wolverine, holds the record for the highest number of Marvel roles. Previously tied with Patton Oswalt, who played distinct characters in Blade: Trinity, Agents of Shield, and MODOK, Fillion’s latest cameo has propelled him to the top spot.

Initially, Nathan Fillion entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” (2014). In this movie, Fillion portrayed an unnamed alien convict who excessively detailed his romantic aspirations towards Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who was initially unwilling. However, these plans were abruptly halted when Groot (Vin Diesel) viciously snapped the alien’s nose. Later, Fillion also made a brief appearance in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” as seen in a deleted scene where he appeared on posters advertising a fictitious film festival for Simon Williams. Marvel Comics enthusiasts will recognize Simon Williams under his alias, Wonder Man.

In the concluding part of Gunn’s Guardians trilogy, Nathan Fillion made a memorable appearance on screen. He portrayed the role of the head of security in the High Evolutionary’s Orgoscope. Clad in an unusual bulky armor suit, Fillion’s role in the movie is significantly larger than his past appearances within the MCU. During this stint, he captures the Guardians and aids Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) in tormenting a former Ravager.

In the finale of Deadpool and Wolverine, Nathan Fillion makes his fourth and record-setting guest appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a swarm of Deadpool alter-egos flee from The Void, a propeller-driven Deadpool head, known as Headpool, is spotted among them. This decapitated character version is voiced by the familiar voice of Nathan Fillion.

Nathan Fillion is well-known for his appearances and leading roles in science fiction and superhero productions. One of Fillion’s most notable performances so far was in the short-lived space western series called Firefly. Next, Fillion will be venturing into outer space again as he takes on a new superhero role within James Gunn’s developing DC Universe.

Fillion has the weight of a fandom on his shoulders as he brings Guy Gardner, one of Earth’s Green Lanterns, to the big screen in Superman. The Lantern Corps hasn’t been properly featured (outside a brief cameo in Zack Snyder’s Justice League) in a DC movie since the critically lambasted Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds. Fillion will play a supporting role in Superman before the Lantern Corps is given their own standalone series, aptly titled Lanterns.

Guy Gardner is relatively unknown in blockbuster movies, with Reynolds playing the most well-known Green Lantern from the comics, Hal Jordan, in his 2011 film. For viewers who may be unfamiliar with Guy Gardner, Fillion has previously introduced his new DC Universe character, and he’s not as morally righteous as one might assume. Fillion stated:

“Guy Gardner is mostly imperfect and unconcerned about it, which is one of his shortcomings. I find this characteristic appealing because it allows for a great deal of creative expression. As such, Guy Gardner presents an abundant source of material for someone who enjoys exploring flaws in characters.”
