As a longtime fan of both Dermot Mulroney‘s acting career and the captivating world of Chicago Fire, I couldn’t be more excited about his upcoming role as Chief Dom Pascal in NBC’s beloved procedural drama. Having grown up watching him charm audiences in ’90s romantic comedies like My Best Friend’s Wedding, I never imagined I would one day see him don the uniform of a fire chief.

The following article contains SPOILERS for Chicago Fire.

Dermot Mulroney, known for his roles in ’90s romantic comedies, has been unveiled as the new addition to NBC’s long-running procedural drama “Chicago Fire.” Previously, the show experienced some high-profile departures among its regular cast members. However, it has also welcomed back familiar faces and introduced new ones, with Mulroney being the most recent announcement. The charismatic actor from the ’90s will now be part of the squad of firefighters leading this successful procedural drama that’s currently in its 13th season.

According to Variety’s news, Mulroney is set to become a member of Chicago Fire Department’s Firehouse 51 team for the new season starting September. In this popular TV series “Chicago Fire,” we follow the lives of firefighters and rescue workers as they tackle various emergencies and personal challenges in each episode. The show focuses on their struggle to maintain a balance between their professional and personal lives amidst the chaotic work environment.

In the twelfth season, Wallace Boden, the former chief, was advanced to the position of Deputy Commissioner, creating a vacancy for a new actor to assume the role as the newest chief. Mulroney now becomes a regular cast member alongside David Eigenberg, Taylor Kinney, Miranda Rae Mayo, Joe Miñoso, Christian Stolte, Hanako Greensmith, and Jocelyn Hudson, all of whom joined the series in the latest season. This program is part of the Chicago-based Wolf Entertainment’s lineup dealing with public services, which includes “Chicago Justice,” “Chicago Med,” and “Chicago P.D.” The latter two shows are produced by the same studio responsible for successful procedurals such as “Law & Order” and “FBI.”

Dermot Mulroney gained significant fame during the 1990s and 2000s by acting in romantic dramas and comedies, including “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “The Wedding Date.” More recently, he has appeared in films such as “Scream 6,” “August: Osage County,” “Insidious: Chapter 3,” and “Anyone But You,” and has been featured on television shows like “The Purge,” “Hanna,” “Secret Invasion,” and “Arrested Development.”

Instead of seeing him court Julia Roberts or escape from Ghostface in movies, maybe you’ve come across him elsewhere. Few fans are aware that the latest recruit to Chicago Fire‘s team is an accomplished cellist. He frequently collaborates on film scores, which are created and conducted by Michael Giacchino. Some of these well-known film scores include “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Jurassic World,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and “Incredibles 2.”
