As a seasoned Guardian with countless hours spent battling the darkness across the cosmos, I can attest that Bungie’s latest announcement about Destiny 2’s upcoming Episode, Revenant, has me more excited than ever before! With its “metal” emphasis and clear inspiration from Bethesda’s DOOM, it’s shaping up to be an action-packed season filled with adrenaline-pumping combat against the relentless Scorn.

According to the developers, Destiny 2’s upcoming episode titled ‘Revenant’ promises to be their most “heavy metal” season so far.

In the upcoming Episode: Echoes, you’ll find yourself frequently battling hordes of Scorn, as they were the chief adversaries in the Vex faction. The Senior Narrative Designer, Jerome Vernich, along with Staff Designer Clayton Kisko, and Sandbox craft lead Chris Proctor, have hinted that this new season will be incredibly ‘metal,’ implying it will be intense and hard-hitting.

It’s clear they went ahead and borrowed Bethesda’s DOOM as its main inspiration.

For those who haven’t been keeping up with Destiny 2, Episodes function similarly to seasons. Each Episode is broken down into three distinct acts and receives updates approximately every three weeks. The latest Episode, titled “Echoes,” has significantly boosted the Vex’s power due to the discovery of the Traveler’s hidden energy source.

In simpler terms, the upcoming Episode Revenant serves as the second significant season following Echoes, continuing the storyline from the grand finale expansion called “The Final Shape.

The narrative will zero in on Fikrul, the de facto chief of the Scorn, who acquires some of the Traveler’s power. This development could spell trouble for the Guardians, as the enhanced abilities of the Scorn may overpower our protectors.

Even though there are risks involved, our protector is never on their own. In this upcoming phase, we’ll witness the assistance of familiar faces like Mithrax and his daughter, Eido.

In this upcoming season, there will be between 25 and 30 different plotlines for the Guardians to pursue. Furthermore, this season marks the debut of a fresh dungeon known as Vesper’s Host, which follows The Final Shape.

During the Developer Stream lasting an hour, some fresh weapons and player activities were displayed. Those engaged in the Into The Light event will find pleasure in knowing that Onslaught is going to get an update.

Typically, the never-ending horde gameplay keeps players engaged because it offers fresh weapons for players to collect.

If you’re not familiar with the mode, the playlist will have a 10 wave format for standard and 50 wave for expert. The video also showed us returning defenses from Destiny 1 like the Shrapnel Turret.

In these upcoming Onslaught events, it’s crucial for Guardians to stay alert since Power Levels will be activated. Despite this, the battle will still feel relatively easy given that Guardians will have both Light and Darkness at their disposal. The introduction of new Exotic Weapons like the Stasis Grenade Launcher, which operates on Primary Ammo, is expected to be particularly beneficial.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed some exciting updates in our favorite game – new weapons, captivating narratives, and engaging activities! But here’s the kicker: Bungie didn’t just stop there; they fine-tuned a few powerful weapons that have been dominating the meta. One of those is the Fighting Lion Grenade Launcher, now equipped with the Volatile perk. Can’t wait to try it out!

In simpler terms, the upcoming season in Destiny 2 will lead us to an expansion titled ‘Frontiers.’ Bungie has clarified that this fresh content won’t rival The Witch Queen’s expansive scope. Instead, they plan to release two expansions each year for a more manageable and frequent update cycle.

In the first half of 2025 (Q1 and Q2), we’ll see the debut of Project Apollo, followed by Project Behemoth in Q3 of 2025 and early 2026. Each project will include four annual major updates at no cost. This upcoming development within the Destiny 2 franchise could potentially boost its declining player base.
