Devil May Cry: A Nostalgic Explosion of Chaos and Capcom Love on Netflix!

Exploring the fresh Netflix anime, titled Devil May Cry, evokes a variety of adjectives. It’s an electrifying adaptation from a video game, a blend of action and horror, and a symphony of metal music amidst turmoil. Fans who have delved into the five original games, perhaps even playing one or more of Capcom’s titles, are eager to witness what showrunner Adi Shankar, known for producing Dredd, has in store. MovieWeb had the opportunity to chat with Shankar as the series debuted on Netflix, discovering what aspects he is most thrilled for viewers to experience.

Shankar described it as a heartfelt tribute to Capcom, Hollywood blockbusters from 1999 to 2003, nu-metal music, and both longtime and newer fans. Essentially, he said, the entire project was a dream come true for him, made possible by Netflix, and something that would have been financially unrealistic in live-action.

“A Wild Ride”

Additionally, during our conversation with Shankar, we had the pleasure of including Johnny Yong Bosch (playing “Dante”) and Scout Taylor-Compton (portraying “Lady”) in our discussion. Interestingly, Scout Taylor-Compton is well-known for her roles in horror films, such as the remakes of Rob Zombie’s Halloween. In fact, it was this background in horror that enabled Scout to secure the voice-acting role for a significant character in the latest Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game.

Given the terrifying film title I’m associated with – certainly Texas Chain Saw Massacre – I often cross paths with them. You see, we run into each other at various events quite frequently. So, to clarify, I am acquainted with all those fellows.

Adi introduced me to “Devil May Cry” years ago during our movie project. He was enthusiastic about the game as a fan, and that’s when I first learned about it. Although I’m not particularly skilled at video games, I’ve given it a go a few times.

Later, we have Bosch, her co-star from Devil May Cry, who initially voiced another character in some of the games but stepped into a major role for this new series adaptation. When discussing his latest job with us, he said, “It was like surfing a wave… I did receive an outline… [Adi] didn’t specify that I would be Dante.” Upon auditioning, however, it turned out that the character he was trying out for was ‘David’. As he watched further, Adi eventually told him, “I wrote Dante especially for you.

Fans can undoubtedly look forward to an exciting journey with Bosch in the highly anticipated DMC role, just as he hinted to MovieWeb about the show’s outcome. In his words, “it’s going to be a thrilling adventure.” Now available for streaming on Netflix! Catch it via the link below:
