Diablo 4 devs on plans after Vessel of Hatred: “The community has influence over the things that we do”

As a dedicated Diablo fan with countless hours spent battling demons and dark forces, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation as Blizzard Entertainment hints at more expansions for Diablo 4 beyond Vessel of Hatred. Sitting down with Aislyn Hall, Systems Designer, and Brent Gibson, Associate Game Director, was like conversing with fellow travelers on the path to Sanctuary’s salvation.

Since Diablo 4 was released last year, it has already had five seasonal content updates. Interestingly, the creators at Blizzard have labeled the latest content, Vessel of Hatred, as their first expansion. This hints that they might be planning additional expansions in the future.

I had a chat with Aislyn Hall, who is our Systems Designer, and Brent Gibson, our Associate Game Director, to discuss potential developments for the game following the expansion.

Regarding our future aspirations, we aim to attract a large number of people to play this game with us. (Gibson)

“Playing our game by more individuals allows us to keep enhancing it. We frequently discuss upcoming ideas on a daily basis.”

“There’s nothing here to announce today,” he jokes, “But it’s top of mind.”

He acknowledges that as long as the community is actively involved, they hold sway over the actions we ultimately take.

Hall clarifies, “As part of the same team playing the game, we share the same experiences, challenges, and aspirations as the other players.”

“So it’s definitely top of our minds, but now, we’re focused on getting the Vessel of Hatred out the door, but we’re not going to stop there.”

As a devoted fan, I voiced one concern I have about Diablo 4 right now: the necessity to unlock extra World Tiers on each character by completing Capstone Dungeons. Fortunately, I received a reassuring response from Gibson that the team is attentive to feedback like mine.
