As a seasoned gamer with a deep appreciation for immersive experiences, I cannot help but be intrigued by the latest offering from Bali’s Beach club and resort, Desi Potato Head – Dome. This retro-futuristic restaurant promises a unique dining experience that blends natural food and wine with a futuristic and earthy environment.
The Desi Potato Head Beach Club and Resort in Bali has unveiled its newest dining experience: Dome. At Dome, patrons can savor natural dishes and wines in a unique, retro-futuristic atmosphere. The interior is a blend of old and new with many pieces made from reclaimed furniture.
The outside exudes a futuristic feel through its dome shape, reminiscent of the renowned Fuller Dome House. Its rough concrete walls add an unrefined touch, while the overall design brings to mind geodesic dome homes but with contemporary elements such as a shiny Dome sign.
Upon entering the restaurant, guests are welcomed by a circular central bar made of steel, which serves as the focal point of the establishment. Blue pillars with integrated light fixtures harmonize with the blue floor and add an original touch while concealing necessary elements. In keeping with the design theme, stainless steel structures accommodate JBL 4355 speakers, allowing diners to enjoy live vinyl DJ performances.
In this space, reclaimed wood and furnishings are prevalent, while OMA-designed sofas and lounge chairs created by Potato Head’s in-house design team add a personalized flair. Decorative pieces such as Indonesian tribal statues and vintage rugs harmonize the industrial vibes of concrete and steel architecture.
“Isaac Larose, our creative director, remarked that the futuristic architecture was intriguing yet called for a human touch. By incorporating natural, imperfect elements such as reclaimed furniture, we aimed to create an authentic and inviting atmosphere. Instead of concealing the furniture’s unique flaws, we chose to highlight them, much like we do with our wines and locally-sourced produce, embracing their individuality and character.”
Dome is open now and you can view the interior in the gallery above.
