As a seasoned Dragon Quest veteran with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the Hero’s Shield in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake is a treasure worth seeking. The defensive boost it provides is a game-changer, especially against those pesky magic-wielding foes.
In the remake of Dragon Quest 3, the Hero’s Shield serves as a robust equipment item that bolsters a character’s defensive strength.
Wearing this item boosts your defense by a substantial 65 points, making it particularly advantageous during battles with magical foes.
This article explains how to obtain the Hero’s Shield in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
How to Get the Hero’s Shield
In the Dragon Quest 3 Remake, you can obtain the Hero’s Shield by navigating to the Talontear Tunnel, which is located to the northwest of Tantegel, within the World of Darkness.
No magic works within the boundaries of the Talontear Tunnel.
If you can’t perform spells such as healing, teleportation, or supportive abilities, then you’ll have to think carefully about your strategy in advance.
Stock up on medicinal herbs and healing items to maintain your party’s strength.
Utilize artifacts that not only allow spell-casting but can circumvent limitations on healing or offensive spells, such as the Staff of Judgment. This way, you can use these items effectively in situations where standard spells are restricted.
Skills like Monster Pile-On also come in handy when dealing with stronger enemies.
Situated just north-west of Tantegel, the Talontear Tunnel is among the initial dungeons you’re likely to come across in the World of Darkness.
Although the setting may seem straightforward, it’s surprisingly tough due to the formidable enemies and restrictive magical conditions within this compact dungeon.
Start in the northwest corner of the first floor and head east, taking the first path south.
From there, proceed east, south, and east again to locate the stairs to the second floor.
As you advance through the levels, you may come across hidden loot such as the Ice Shield located at the bottom-left area and the Snooze Stick close to the main tunnel.
Head up to the second floor, then move towards the lower right area. Follow the primary path until you reach the stairs located at the upper left corner.
Avoid entering side rooms unless you’re after items like the Thief’s Turban or gold coins.
The stairs in the top-left corner will take you to the final floor, and your goal is to get there.
On the third floor, you’ll find a smaller area leading straight to a chamber overflowing with chests. Yet, the chest containing the Hero’s Shield is not immediately noticeable.
By-pass the initial treasure boxes and take a detour to your left, following the slim trail that eventually takes you to the accurate chest located at the distant end.
This chest holds the sought-after Hero’s Shield.
After obtaining the Hero’s Shield, you’ll need to backtrack through the dungeon to exit, since enchantments like Evac or objects such as Chimaera Wings are ineffective within Talontear Tunnel.
The Hero’s Shield offers a notable enhancement to your defense, and it lessens the impact of both fiery and icy magical assaults.
