As a huge fan of Dylan Arnold’s acting abilities, I am absolutely captivated by his recent roles in high-profile productions like “Oppenheimer” and “Lady in the Lake.” In Apple TV+’s intriguing noir drama, “Lady in the Lake,” Dylan impresses viewers once again with his portrayal of Stephan Zawadzkie opposite the brilliant Natalie Portman. This series follows Maddie Schwartz’s (Portman) quest to solve a mystery that intertwines her life with Cleo Johnson’s (Moses Ingram).
Recently, Dylan Arnold has been drawing interest from many. In the past year, he transformed into Frank Oppenheimer, the intellectually gifted brother of J. Robert Oppenheimer, portrayed by Cillian Murphy, in Christopher Nolan’s successful film, “Oppenheimer.” He is set to capture more attention as he takes on the role of puzzled Stephan Zawadzkie next to Natalie Portman in Apple TV+’s intriguing noir drama, “Lady in the Lake.”
The show follows the stories of two women with complicated backgrounds: Maddie Schwartz, played by Portman, is a Jewish housewife attempting to hide her past and begin a new career as a journalist following the mysterious disappearance of a young girl in Baltimore during Thanksgiving 1966. Meanwhile, Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram) portrays a Baltimore mother struggling to keep her head above water amidst the city’s political turmoil. Although their paths wouldn’t normally cross, when Cleo unexpectedly passes away, Maddie becomes obsessed with unraveling the mystery surrounding her death.
Director Alma Har’el leads the way in this surprising story about the costs borne by women pursuing their dreams, depicted through the character of Maddie and her enigmatic companion, Arnold (played by Portman). Arnold expresses that the character of Stephan is a yearning presence for Maddie – possibly an ally. According to Arnold, “Stephan longs for connection, be it spiritual, emotional or physical. I concentrated on this aspect. He’s in pursuit of connection and atonement.”
On Working with Natalie Portman
As a gamer, I’d describe my experience working with Natalie Portman on our series like this: collaborating with Natalie was an unforgettable moment in my career. She was not only an amazing actress but also an executive producer, making her presence truly felt behind the scenes. Working alongside her was a creative adventure filled with exploration and experimentation. I appreciated that she was open to new ideas, something not every collaborator can offer. It was exhilarating to have a safe space where we could freely discover and innovate together.
“[Natalie’s] relationship with [him/her] is intriguing and full of mystery, as pieces of their past gradually surface and influence their current interactions. The intrigue deepens as the scenes progress, requiring an increasing intensity.”
During the filming of the scenes, Arnold mentioned, we discovered many elements. Later on, we discussed what had worked effectively and what hadn’t. We reflected on whether these findings aligned with our intended goals.
How Oppenheimer Changed Things for Dylan Arnold
It’s worth mentioning that playing the role of Frank Oppenheimer in “Oppenheimer,” alongside J. Robert’s brother, likely impacted Arnold’s professional growth. However, Arnold remains modest about it, expressing uncertainty, “I have no idea,” he pondered, regarding how the movie might be expanding new opportunities for him.
As a gamer, I can tell you that being surrounded by top-notch individuals, like Alma and Chris, in a gaming community significantly enhances my own experience and skills. When everyone is at their best, it naturally brings out the best in me too. That’s the magic of playing games with Oppenheimer and Lady in the Lake communities.
With the stellar cast led by Oppenheimer, featuring Oscar winners Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, and Robert Downey Jr., Arnold gained valuable experience working alongside such esteemed actors. When probed about what he gleaned from Murphy and Damon, Arnold shared:
In all sincerity, both of them are truly remarkable individuals. It’s fascinating to observe when two strong personalities come together. They are not only generous but also exemplary men. Their behavior on set has demonstrated to me the ability to command a film while maintaining a kind and supportive demeanor off-camera.
He further shared that Murphy and Damon have a disciplined work ethic. “They aren’t extravagant, as you might imagine. Working with them was an exceptional experience in my career. However, observing Cillian’s methodology was truly awe-inspiring for me. I mostly collaborated with Cillian, and witnessing how he meticulously prepared for his roles and left it all on set was quite remarkable.” [[Lady in the Lake](https://www.apple.com/tv/shows/lady-in-the-lake/) starts July 19 on Apple TV+.
