Elektra Actress Open to Returning for Daredevil: Born Again S2

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly pondering over potential Marvel superheroes that could make an appearance in the upcoming Season 2 of “Daredevil: Born Again.” While it’s unlikely we’ll see Spider-Man, many fans were hoping for The Defenders to reunite. However, a character that might intrigue us all is Elektra. Remember her from “Daredevil” Season 2, portrayed by the captivating Élodie Yung? She was once Matt Murdock’s lover and has now transformed into an assassin, eventually becoming the main antagonist in The Defenders. Interestingly enough, she was last seen in The Defenders, presumed dead. But as we all know too well, no one stays deceased for long in the Marvel Universe!

In an interview with POC Culture, when asked if she might resume the role of Elektra in Daredevil: Born Again’s second season, Yung expressed that she would be open to Marvel’s invitation should they reach out. Yung fondly recalled her time as Elekta and working alongside her fellow cast members on both Daredevil and The Defenders. Yung stated:

“If Marvel calls me about reprising my role as Elektra, I would certainly consider it. I truly enjoyed my time playing Elektra and working with the wonderful cast on both Daredevil and The Defenders.

Indeed, that character was truly captivating to portray. Elektra, she’s a delightful enigma, a multifaceted role any actor would dream of. If given the chance, I’d jump at it, returning to work with my cherished co-stars feels like reuniting with dear friends. Fingers crossed if they reach out; I’m ready and eager to answer the call. The thought alone brings a smile to my face.

Why Marvel Should Bring Back Elektra

Originating from the mind of Frank Miller and debuting in issue #168 of Daredevil in January 1981, Elektra swiftly rose to become one of the most recognized supporting characters for Daredevil and a highly-acclaimed solo character within Marvel comics. Actress Jennifer Garner portrayed Elektra in the 2003 film adaptation of Daredevil, followed by her own standalone movie in 2005, and later reprised her role in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Given Elektra’s recent resurgence in popularity, Disney+’s upcoming Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again could serve as an excellent platform to not only revive the character but also reimagine her based on the feedback received from her portrayal in The Defenders.

The main challenge that could prevent Elodie Yung’s Elektra from playing a substantial role in “Daredevil: Born Again” or reappearing at all, may be due to scheduling issues. Currently, she stars as the lead in the Fox series “The Cleaning Lady.” Being the star of a prominent TV show might make it challenging for her to accommodate “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2 within her schedule.

If Marvel Television intends to extend the run of Daredevil: Born Again, it might be wiser to delay Elektra’s reintroduction until a potential third season. Given that Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again seems to be brimming with storylines already, introducing Elektra could risk overcrowding the narrative, as was the case in Daredevil Season 2’s original run. Marvel has an opportunity to rehabilitate the character, potentially drawing on recent comics where she assumes the role of Daredevil herself. Once a prominent figure in the Marvel universe, Elektra has appeared in films, games, and solo comics. If handled skillfully, she could become a significant character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
