Elton John and Brandi Carlile Light Up London with Inspiring Concert for New Album!

On Wednesday evening at the London Palladium, Elton John and Brandi Carlile put on an electrifying, once-in-a-lifetime show that had the audience swaying, chuckling, and roaring with delight!

The event, titled “An Evening With Elton John & Brandi Carlile,” combined performances of songs from their upcoming collaborative album Who Believes in Angels?, along with some of their best-known tunes, following a conversation between the two artists and interviewer Dan Levy about their friendship.

During an extensive chat, John touched upon various topics including LGBTQIA+ rights, expressing interest in assisting emerging musicians (he mentioned Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter as examples), sharing that he owns around 10,000 to 15,000 pairs of sunglasses, expressing optimism that their joint album will expand Carlile’s global fanbase, explaining his initial challenges with the album due to the Israel-Gaza conflict, and revealing what he wants engraved on his tombstone.

The renowned musician expressed his wish for his epitaph to be simple: ‘A wonderful father he was.’ He made clear that any reference to ‘Crocodile Dundee’ should be avoided.

Speaking about his distress over the ongoing war, John expressed his mixed emotions by stating, “It feels wrong to focus on creating music during such terrible events.

Carlile expressed that she leaned into her music when she composed a song titled ‘A Little Light’. She further clarified that the initial verse of this song echoes what Elton mentioned, while the subsequent verses represent what she wished she could have said, but found it simpler to express to Elton through the medium of a song.

John was motivated anew when Brandi made him realize his role as a musician. “She triggered a memory in me that I am, indeed, a musician,” he reminisced. “The only way I know to mend anything is by sharing my music with the world and uniting people.

As a gamer, I’d say when someone asked me about the current challenges facing the LGBTQIA+ community, I replied, “It’s a rough time right now, but I believe these issues will eventually be resolved. They’ll be overcome.

John underscored his perspective on expressing political opinions: “I can’t comment on governments, I’m a diplomat. If I do, it might jeopardize the funding for AIDS programs like PEPFAR. Many lives depend on this, and I run an AIDS foundation that relies on financial support. I’ll do my best to secure it. However, I can’t just lash out and call people names. It’s important to find solutions through negotiation and playing the political game.

Notable attendees in the crowd were Ron Wood from The Rolling Stones and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA.

Last year, John openly shared his struggle with a serious eye issue. However, his age didn’t hold him back as he delivered an outstanding performance. Meanwhile, those in the audience who weren’t already familiar with Carlile’s work found themselves expressing admiration and praise.

The duo sang tunes from their forthcoming record, including “Little Richard’s Bible,” a number that John acknowledged as a tribute to one of his idols, the late icon. Additionally, they played “Swing for the Fences,” an empowering song for the LGBTQIA+ community, which was recently unveiled, as well as “You Without Me,” a ballad inspired by Carlile’s personal experiences with her daughters. Lastly, they performed “Who Believes in Angels?”, a track from earlier this year that serves as the album’s title song.

At the performance, Carlile showcased a few of her timeless hits like “The Joke” and “The Story.” Additionally, she teamed up with John to perform some of his all-time favorites, including “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

The audience enjoyed performances of “Tiny Dancer,” “Your Song,” and “Bennie and the Jets” from John’s collection, among others. They wrapped up the evening around 10 p.m., ending it with the timeless hit “I’m Still Standing.” As the crowd danced along exuberantly, they gave a thunderous applause to send the performers off at the end.

Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Andrew Watt teams up with his frequent collaborator, Bernie Taupin, for the upcoming release of their single “Who Believes in Angels?” due out April 4 via Interscope Records. This project also boasts contributions from esteemed musicians such as Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Pino Palladino, and Josh Klinghoffer. On Wednesday evening, Watt, Smith, Klinghoffer, the Hanseroth brothers (long-time collaborators of Carlile), and Taupin took the stage in London together.
