Here’s an Emmys surprise for you.
The critically acclaimed Netflix murder-mystery series, titled “The Perfect Couple“, featuring the talented Nicole Kidman, which garnered significant attention upon its debut on Sept. 5, 2024, is being put forward for Emmy Awards consideration in the drama series categories, contrary to expectations that it would compete in the limited/anthology series categories, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The reason for this is that the popular author Elin Hilderbrand, who wrote the 2018 bestseller “Queen of the Beach Read,” has penned more books which could potentially be turned into additional seasons. Regarding the possibility of another season or seasons, Netflix chose not to comment, but they did confirm that a submission for a show based on her novel has been made.
Considering the massive success of “The Perfect Couple,” it’s no surprise at all. The show managed to secure a spot in the top 10 English-language TV shows worldwide for six weeks. It even cracked the top 10 TV shows in 92 countries! To add to that, it was the second most-watched TV title on the service during the second half of 2024, amassing a whopping 75.1 million views from its release through December 31st.
The show might have faced difficulties getting a series nomination due to mixed reviews. But if it competes as a drama instead of a limited series, it could increase Kidman’s chances since she is well-liked by the TV Academy and has been nominated twice for acting awards in this category.
Additionally, this could benefit her fellow actors such as Liev Schreiber and Dakota Fanning. Notably, Schreiber had won the Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie Critics Choice Award in January, and he has previously been nominated for four Emmys, three of which were for Ray Donovan. Similarly, Fanning was an Emmy nominee last year for Ripley.
