In its opening weekend, the film “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” exceeded a significant international box office benchmark. Directed and co-written by Christopher McQuarrie, this latest addition to the action movie series is the eighth part of the franchise, featuring Tom Cruise as character Ethan Hunt, an accomplished spy. Simultaneously launched during Memorial Day weekend 2025 was “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” and the premiere of Disney’s live-action remake, “Lilo & Stitch.

According to Variety, as of Sunday morning, the movie “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is expected to earn a global total of around $190 million by the end of its first weekend in cinemas. This impressive figure includes approximately $127 million from foreign markets, along with a projected domestic opening weekend gross of $63 million. Remarkably, this domestic figure represents the highest earnings for any movie in the entire Mission: Impossible franchise to date.

Beyond becoming the ninth film to surpass $150 million globally this year, it has also climbed up the list of top-grossing movies in 2025 so far. At present, it sits at the eighth spot, surpassed only by Snow White, Sinners, Thunderbolts, Captain America: Brave New World, A Minecraft Movie, Ne Zha 2, and Lilo & Stitch – another recent release.

Our Take On The Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Global Debut

It Could Make Up For The Previous Installment

No matter the financial aspects, should Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning surpass its fellow films as the highest-earning, this would indicate a notable resurgence for the franchise following the underperformance of 2023’s Dead Reckoning Part One, which grossed $571.1 million against a reported budget of $291 million. Even if this doesn’t guarantee another movie, it would at least end the series on a positive note with a strong finish.
