Every Major Marvel Character Death In Thunderbolts*

In an innovative move, Marvel Studios has skillfully combined secondary characters from “Black Widow,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp” to create the upcoming superhero ensemble – the Thunderbolts. Remarkably, this unique blend of characters has proven effective, with the film receiving praise for its solid narrative structure, as stated by Looper. Notably, “Thunderbolts*” stands out among recent Marvel productions, offering a profoundly moving tale that grapples with mental health issues. The story primarily revolves around Yelena Belova (portrayed by Florence Pugh) as she navigates her uncertain future and Bob, who goes by Sentry (Lewis Pullman), confronting the dark aspects of his own mind, specifically, the Void.

In essence, every individual gets an opportunity to show their potential and demonstrate that no matter the hardships experienced in life, redemption can be achieved. However, it seems there’s one exception among the Thunderbolts team – a character who meets an untimely demise before the main events unfold. Despite the prevalence of death within “Thunderbolts”, it primarily stems from secondary sources, such as Yelena recalling her role in the murder of a classmate in the Red Room or Valentina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) unintentionally causing her father’s death when she was young.

One significant death in “Thunderbolts” is particularly noteworthy for analysis. Regardless of whether you’ve watched the movie or not, you might be able to infer it due to numerous fan theories circulating online and the character’s conspicuous absence from multiple trailers.

So long, Taskmaster

The storyline begins as Valentina, desperate to eliminate traces of her numerous illicit activities, dispatches Yelena, John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) to a hidden O.X.E. Group vault with the intention of eliminating them. Interestingly, a cut scene from “Black Widow” reveals that Taskmaster was apprehended by U.S. authorities, which presumably explains how she came under Valentina’s control as the CIA director. Before the four suspect anything, Ghost fatally shoots Taskmaster in cold blood, instantly ending her life.

In this film adaptation, a character meets an abrupt, startling end, yet this death was intentionally included by director Jake Schreier to create a sense of unpredictability and excitement. As he explained to GamesRadar+, “We felt it necessary for a movie like this to have such a twist; it makes you think, ‘If they’d do something like that, who knows what else they might do?’ This uncertainty about the plot’s direction required a bit of shock or surprise.” However, contrary to this dramatic event, no other major characters meet their end in “Thunderbolts.” Even those transformed into shadows by the Void are revived once Bob regains control over his emotions.

Although Taskmaster was among the less powerful members of the Thunderbolts, it would have been intriguing to watch her go against Sentry, mimicking his moves, only to be overpowered. Sadly, she had a limited screen time in the movie and technically wasn’t a member of the team as she left before they adopted the Thunderbolts name. It seems that Taskmaster was the one who could have used an asterisk next to her name instead.
