The Mouse Trap
Stream on Oct. 1
Title “The Mouse Trap” is a blend of horror and comedy, which gives a fresh perspective to the famous mouse from Disney’s 1928 short film, “Steamboat Willie,” featuring Mickey Mouse. Similar to how Winnie the Pooh was portrayed in the 2023 movie “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey,” “The Mouse Trap” introduces a new take on the character from “Steamboot Willie” that appears post the iconic character’s entry into the public domain.
On my 21st birthday, I’m the one in the movie, Alex (Sophie McIntosh, not me), who ends up working the late shift at the arcade instead of celebrating. My friends decide to surprise me, but their plans go awry when a maniac in a Mickey Mouse costume starts a lethal spree. As he starts picking us off one by one, I find myself battling for my life. Don’t miss The Mouse Trap streaming on Oct. 1.
Pride + Prejudice + Zombies
Stream on Oct. 1
The movie “Pride + Prejudice + Zombies” is an action-packed horror comedy that playfully reimagines Jane Austen’s 1813 novel “Pride and Prejudice”. Set in 19th-century England, the story follows Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) and her sisters as they combat a rising number of zombies while also exploring romantic prospects. A skilled martial artist and weapon user, Elizabeth crosses paths with Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley), a somewhat arrogant yet attractive gentleman. Despite her initial disdain for him, Elizabeth acknowledges his prowess in combat, paving the way for a possible romance as they team up to vanquish the zombie hordes plaguing the English countryside. As they fight together, their mutual respect could blossom into love, potentially saving England from being overrun by the undead.
Blackwater Lane
Stream on Oct. 4
Blackwater Lane tells the chilling tale of Cass Anderson (played by Minka Kelly), who finds herself questioning the very fabric of her existence. One fateful night, while commuting home, she encounters a stranded motorist, only to discover later that this individual has met an untimely and gruesome end. Matters become even more unsettling as Cass starts to fear for her own life after a string of ominous occurrences take place within the confines of her residence.
Nevertheless, Matthew (played by Dermot Mulroney) expresses doubts about his wife’s mental clarity, suggesting that the medication she’s taking might be responsible for her intense hallucinations. Blackwater Lane will be available to stream on Oct 4.
Didi
Stream on Oct. 4
In the upcoming comedy titled Didi, we follow the story of a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy named Chris (played by Izaac Wang), as he navigates the complexities of adolescence in the summer of 2008. Straddling between his personal desires and familial expectations, Chris grapples with discovering his identity. While other children of his mother’s acquaintances excel academically, Chris creates humorous videos for online consumption. Feeling like a letdown to his mother, Chris finds it challenging to bond with her on a deeper level. As he embarks on his journey before high school, he learns valuable lessons that his family can’t impart, such as skateboarding, communicating with girls, and loving his mother more deeply. Didi will be available for streaming on Oct. 4.
Despicable Me 4
Stream on Oct. 31
The upcoming animated film titled “Despicable Me 4” features our beloved anti-hero, Gru (Steve Carell), as he navigates another thrilling escapade. After Maximal Mal (Will Ferrell) breaks out of prison, Gru, Lucy (Kristen Wiig), Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), Agnes (Madison Skyy Polan), and Gru Jr. are compelled to move to a secure location for their own safety. Meanwhile, the Anti-Villain League develops a powerful new tool against Maximal and other future villains called Mega Minions.
