Rob (Robert Pattinson) is known as a film actor, recognized for his beauty and talent. However, in this project, he’s shed all pretenses. It’s a genuine portrayal of a character metamorphosis,” – Mark Ruffalo.
The Academy Award-winning filmmaker Bong Joon Ho is set to unveil his next groundbreaking cinematic adventure titled “Mickey 17.” In this story, Mickey Barnes finds himself in an extraordinary situation: working for an employer who requires the ultimate devotion – a commitment that involves sacrificing life itself.
Under the guidance of director Bong Joon Ho, Mickey 17 boasts an impressive cast including Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo – all of whom have been nominated for Academy Awards. The film is a joint production effort by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner (winners of multiple Oscars for 12 Years a Slave, Okja, and Beetlejuice), Bong Joon Ho, and Dooho Choi (known for their work on Okja and Snowpiercer).
The story is adapted from the book “Mickey7” by Edward Ashton. In this movie, Mark Ruffalo portrays Kenneth Marshall, the main villain. He’s a self-absorbed ex-politician who persistently harasses the protagonist, Mickey Barnes.
As a lifestyle expert, I can attest that Mark Ruffalo, despite his on-screen rivalry, holds nothing but respect for Robert Pattinson’s portrayal. During our initial table read, some of us were present in person, while others, including myself, joined remotely via Zoom. I recall pondering, “How will Rob pull this off? How will he embody this character?” And then, when he arrived, he exuded a tender, blue-collar modesty that perfectly captured Mickey – a character who may not have been the most educated or articulate, but was genuinely sincere.
The actor went on to say, “His selection left me genuinely amazed. There was an authentic South Philly, working-class tone to his voice. It’s surprising because Rob is a renowned movie star, known for his beauty and talent, but in this role, he has shed all that.
Ruffalo added, “He’s skinny, gray, and sports the saddest haircut you’ve ever encountered. It’s a remarkable character change. However, what truly sets his acting apart is his humility – a trait that Rob genuinely possesses – which makes his performance touching and captivating.
Warner Bros. Pictures is set to distribute internationally the movie “Mickey 17,” produced by A Plan B Entertainment, Offscreen Production, Kate Street Picture Company, and directed by Bong Joon Ho. The film is scheduled for release in theaters and IMAX screens in India on March 7, 2025.
