Despite some controversy surrounding the finale of “Game of Thrones,” the franchise is flourishing, primarily due to the renewed excitement generated by the success of “House of the Dragon.” This 2022 spin-off was the first from the original “Game of Thrones” series and is gearing up for its third and penultimate season. Another spin-off, titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” set to debut in 2025, falls between “House of the Dragon” and “Game of Thrones.” To add to this, HBO has revealed plans to adapt additional projects from George R.R. Martin (who is still delaying “The Winds of Winter”) into a new series altogether.
In an interview with Deadline, HBO’s drama series and films head, Francesca Orsi, mentioned that they are currently developing additional spin-offs from “Game of Thrones”. When asked about the new series, Orsi hinted that one of them will focus on the Targaryen dynasty, similar to “House of the Dragon” and the original show. She further added that this upcoming series promises to be exciting for fans who have followed the Targaryens’ storyline.
“We have other spin-offs that we’re working on right now.”
While I eagerly anticipate potential additional Game of Thrones spin-offs, Orsi cautioned fans that just because HBO is “developing” these new shows doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll ever make it to our TV screens. There are several other spin-offs in the works, but we can’t promise what will actually materialize. Moreover, they described the upcoming Targaryen series as the most intimate one among them. However, it remains uncertain if this new series is indeed “Aegon’s Conquest,” another prequel series that HBO initially hinted at during Game of Thrones’ peak popularity.
‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Promises To Be Epic
The first season of “House of the Dragon” brought new life to the struggling TV series. However, the second season faced criticism from viewers due to its slow pace and limited action. But it seems that HBO and showrunner Ryan Condal have taken note of the fan’s concerns, as the third season of “House of the Dragon” promises a thrilling “massive” battle scene. As Orsi put it, “It was worth the wait,” referring to the upcoming Battle of the Gullet in Season 3.
Originally planned for Season 2, the fierce clash known as The Battle of the Gullet between the Blacks and Greens was postponed until Season 3. While on set, Orsi hinted at what he saw, saying, “I’m just off set, and I got a glimpse of everything that’s in store.” He continued, expressing his satisfaction with the wait, stating, “I’m so glad we delayed it because it’s going to be more spectacular than ever, and I don’t think we were ready at that time to accomplish what we’ve managed this season.” It’s expected that House of the Dragon will air in Season 3, which is projected for a 2026 release.
