F1 Manager 2024 review in progress - Striving towards perfection

As a long-time fan of Formula One and sim racing games, I have eagerly anticipated the release of F1 Manager 2024. Having played both the 2022 and 2023 versions, I was excited to see how Frontier would build upon the solid foundation they had created.

It’s surprising how we’ve reached our third version of F1 Manager now. Our initial launch in 2022 was impressive, and the improvements made in its second year were noteworthy. I’m excited to discover what new features and enhancements the 2024 edition will bring us.

In simpler terms, the year 2022 served as a strong base for development, and though it wasn’t particularly advanced, the progress made in 2023 transformed that foundation into a fantastic product.

Now, Frontier has strived to advance its game with the introduction of a new game mode. After some initial playtime, has F1 Manager 2024 met our expectations so far?

Do it your way

As an avid Football Manager gamer, I’m thrilled about this year’s major update – creating my own team. This was a long-awaited feature requested by the fanbase, and it feels great to finally have it back, even if FM temporarily removed the Create A Club option last year.

To put it another way, Frontier has excelled in designing the mode with an abundance of customization features and the ability to set varying levels of difficulty right from the start. Surprisingly, you can even create your own logo and livery using the generous array of options provided.

You have the flexibility to set your own budget, select team amenities, hire drivers and staff according to your preference. This gives you the power to begin from the last position in the race, aim for points, or contend for victories right away – the choice is yours.

The ‘boring’ side of F1

In F1 Manager 2024, I’m thoroughly immersed in the challenges of managing an Formula One team beyond just the race track. The game does a fantastic job of portraying the gritty reality of this high-stakes industry. My drivers and staff members’ morale hinge on our performance and workload – it all makes perfect sense to me as a dedicated fan.

Based on my experience as a long-time racing team manager, I firmly believe that the demanding nature of our industry can take a heavy toll on both our drivers and staff. When they find themselves at the back of the grid time and again, and are required to attend sponsor events every other day, it’s only natural for them to feel fatigued and demotivated.

Dealing with sponsors is one aspect that leaves me feeling drained and impossible to avoid. Although the customization is pleasant, I’m annoyed every time a screen appears, knowing I have to complete tiresome tasks that seem insignificant beyond boosting my income.

Nurturing talent

An aspect I was eagerly anticipating was the prospect of managing F2 and F3 racers, preparing them for the higher caliber competition in Formula One. Fortunately, this feature is available in F1 Manager 2024.

Many skilled drivers, including Dennis Hauger and Paul Aron, are ready to join the competition at the start, providing a wealth of potential talent. I look forward to observing their progression as I continue to race through additional seasons. (Metaphorically speaking, I’m eager to see how things unfold with these talented drivers.)

It’s race day

In F1 Manager 2024, most of the effort has gone into enhancing the off-track experience. During race weekends, however, the game feels more refined and polished. A significant addition this year is the inclusion of powertrain issues. I’ve already encountered these frustrating glitches, which can occur at the most inopportune moments. While they may be a hassle, they add to the game’s realism.

In simpler terms, there’s no need to make any changes in F1 Manager 2024 if it’s already functioning well, as introducing more features might result in an excessive amount of information.

The Verdict So Far

F1 Manager consistently surpasses my initial expectations with every passing year, providing new features that enhance the experience. New drivers to develop and refine, plus subtle adjustments to race day, add depth to an already impressive simulation. The long-awaited team creation feature is just the cherry on top, making this game even more engaging in significant ways.

I’m excited to invest more time into this project this week and expect to make significant progress. Based on what I’ve accomplished so far, I can already assure you that it will surpass my previous efforts.
