Fans Are Naming Shows That Went Way Downhill, And One Is Getting Way More Abuse Than Game Of Thrones And The Walking Dead

As a gamer with a heart for great storytelling and a keen eye for production values, I’ve witnessed my fair share of television series that promised much but ultimately failed to deliver. The memory of Heroes, however, stands out as an exceptional case of a show that soared high, only to crash and burn spectacularly.

Is it more challenging to initiate something excellent or to conclude it in a manner that everyone can approve? As we progress through the 2024 TV lineup, there will likely be additional chances for both beginnings and endings, as new shows emerge and established series approach their final episodes.

When it comes to discussing outstanding TV series that unfortunately faltered towards their conclusion, there appears to be a standout choice. This show managed to climb higher and fall faster than even “Game of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead.” Indeed, we’re referring to the once-promising NBC drama “Heroes.”

Reddit users have been relentlessly criticizing Tim Kring’s superhero series en masse. A wide range of issues have been raised, offering a diverse perspective on the show; here’s a taste of some of the feedback, though it only scratches the surface:

  • “I loved the first season of Heroes but it declined drastically to the point I stopped watching pretty abruptly.” – @lurkbutdonttouch19
  • “Heroes was going to end in the trash no matter what they did, and anybody with experience running super hero campaigns could have told you that. ‘My main character scales infinitely and the side character controls time.’ That’s a recipe for failure. One season is all you get out of that formula.” – @shaidyn
  • “Heroes was the first show where I ever noticed super blatant product placement. Fucking Nissan Versa.” – @apple_atchin
  • “Season 1 was amazing. Season 2 was…ok. Season 3 was getting bad, but season 4 was….garbage.” – @Banluil
  • “I heard this so much about Heroes so I decided to watch the first season and then I just stopped. Now I always remember it as a great show.” – @yay-its-colin

Frankly speaking, I’ve held off from watching “Lost,” now on Netflix, due to the ongoing criticism about its plot arc that has lingered in my mind since it concluded years ago. It’s no wonder then, that I haven’t dived into “Heroes” either, as I share similar reservations based on comparable criticisms.

The statistics show that, given the length of time, the level of disappointment per season is understandable since this drama, initially thought to be promising, spanned just four seasons. To put it into perspective, Game of Thrones ran for eight seasons and ended with one of HBO’s most debated finales. Similarly, The Walking Dead’s emotional series finale concluded its 11-season run on AMC, a point where many felt the original was falling short in all the wrong ways and failing to live up to its name.

Regarding fairness, it’s worth noting that many people believed the 2008 writer’s strike halted the series momentum. Consequently, since the initial Season 2 plans had to be significantly revised due to the strike, there’s a bit of leniency shown by some understanding parties. However, when you look at the comments, it’s clear that this perspective isn’t widely shared among the majority.

Indeed, there are numerous other series featured in this online collection of shows that failed to gain traction, even with promising beginnings. For instance, ABC’s “Once Upon A Time” was another example, and I recall losing interest during Season 2 myself. In my opinion, the show seemed to run its course once the curse was lifted from Storybrooke. Additionally, learning about that surprising character death in the series finale has left me reluctant to watch a beloved show like that meet its end.

Among other shows criticized by TV viewers, “That ’70s Show”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, and “Dexter” were not spared from negative comments either. Just as anticipated, old grudges resurfaced for these once-promising productions. Interestingly, despite this, the series “Heroes” has managed to garner a significant amount of attention in response feedback, rising high in the list of responses.

After skimming through differing opinions about Heroes, my curiosity is piqued to dive into the show myself and gauge my response. The fact that it promises a rocky journey might even enhance the experience, as I do recall being intrigued by trailers similar to this one, suggesting that a TV series centered around metahumans could indeed be entertaining.

Just as in life, it’s up to us to determine how deeply we dive into an experience and how much emotional turmoil we can endure before stepping back. If you’re yearning for a fresh heartache or wish to immerse yourself in the agony that is ‘Heroes’, you can stream the entire series by subscribing to Peacock’s powerful service.

On a more positive note, let me share some examples of TV series that had satisfying conclusions. After all, why should we part ways with a gloomy sentiment when not even our cheerleader character could rescue this fictitious universe?
