In case you didn’t know, there are numerous Hindi films directed by women that can be found on Netflix. A while ago, TopMob ran a poll where fans could vote for their favorite female-directed Bollywood movie available on the streaming service. Now, they have finally announced the winner of this poll. Keep reading to discover who took the top spot!
Results of the poll for the fan-favorite female-directed movie:
On International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025, a poll was held to find out which female-led Bollywood movie fans preferred the most. The options provided were Shauna Gautam’s Nadaaniyan, Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, Jasmeet K Reen’s Darlings, Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink, and Ashima Chibber’s Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. Readers were invited to make their choice from these five movies.
The two-day voting period has concluded, and based on the tally, the crowd’s preferred Bollywood film directed by a woman was Laapataa Ladies, which garnered approximately 40% of the total votes. Nadaaniyan and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway ended up in a tie for second place, each earning around 20% of the vote share. Meanwhile, Darlings and The Sky Is Pink managed to secure 10% of the votes apiece.
On March 1, 2024, the moving tale “Laapataa Ladies” hit the silver screen. This story follows two young brides who find themselves separated after disembarking from the same train. The film is masterfully directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande. Key players in this captivating production include Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan.
Before its public premiere, the movie was showcased at the esteemed Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) back in 2023. This comedy-drama has garnered significant praise for its compelling narrative, acting, soundtrack, and overall direction.
I’ve been utterly captivated by Laapataa Ladies, a masterpiece that has won the hearts of countless viewers and garnered numerous accolades. In fact, it was honored as India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category for the 97th Academy Awards!
