FBI: International Sparks Romance Between Wes and Amanda, But Is Time Running Out?

In Season 4 of “FBI: International,” the Fly Team embarked on a new chapter, featuring a premiere that served as a reintroduction and Jesse Lee Soffer joining the cast as SSA Wes Mitchell, taking over from Luke Kleintank’s character, SSA Scott Forrester. The episode broadcast on April 1, part of the 2025 TV lineup, concluded in an unexpected manner: a romantic tension between Wes and Amanda Tate, portrayed by Christina Wolfe, began to develop. This episode can now be streamed with a Peacock subscription.

At this moment, I’m unsure about my feelings towards a potential relationship in the series, but there’s one thing I’m certain of: if “International” decides to pursue it, there might not be enough time left in the series for a satisfying resolution given that CBS canceled both “International” and “FBI: Most Wanted” in early March, and the news of their cancellation still hasn’t fully sunk in for me. I was taken aback by the final scene of the first episode of “International” in April titled “Little Angel,” as it seemed to hint at a possible first kiss between members of the Fly Team since Forrester and Kellett. This surprise comes despite the fact that CBS has already canceled both shows, and “FBI: CIA” is now moving forward instead.

Following the events of the week, Wes found himself reconnecting with his ex Ella, which left him faced with a choice: either expose her dubious activities or wrap up the case. In an effort to distract himself from his heartache, he sought solace in a bar in Budapest. It was a bit puzzling as to why the bartender phoned Amanda to escort Wes home, but it did seem logical that “Little Angel” would have a Wes/Amanda connection, given their back-and-forth discussions about Ella. Additionally, it was understandable that Wes would share his past with Amanda, as alcohol often loosens one’s tongue.

Afterward, Wes made a humorous comment about HR breaking into his apartment like ninjas if she entered, which hinted at the possibility of something more. This was followed by her admitting that she too had made poor relationship choices, similar to Wes and Ella’s situation. Wes pondered, “Why can’t we see what’s obvious right in front of us?”, and as they looked at each other, soft dramatic music played. This interaction led me to hope there wouldn’t be a kiss since Wes was intoxicated.

It seems I’ve been mistaken twice now, as I expected a romantic moment between Jesse Lee Soffer’s character and a coworker from law enforcement. Just as I was certain Halstead wouldn’t kiss Upton during the early stages of the Upstead storyline on Chicago P.D. Season 8, I assumed we would witness some chemistry between Amanda and Wes in FBI: International. However, it appears that romance wasn’t in the cards for them this time around.

It’s quite distinct to assume that the pace of the Upstead storyline won’t accelerate three episodes into a season, compared to presuming that Wes and Amanda might suddenly speed things up with just a few episodes left in the series. Frankly, I’m not certain I would have supported a kiss between them even if they were both sober. It remains unclear whether International will explore their moment further or if what I’m perceiving as potential sparks was never intended to exist.

For the upcoming episode on April 8, the teaser trailer is keeping most details under wraps. However, sharp-eyed fans might notice the return of the character played by Jay Hayden – Agent Tyler Booth. Check it out!

Don’t forget to catch CBS every Tuesday at 9 p.m. Eastern Time for the last episodes of FBI: International, which marks the end of its fourth season. These shows will be sandwiched between FBI at 8 p.m. ET and FBI: Most Wanted at 10 p.m. ET. The final episodes for all three series won’t air until May 20, so there’s ample time before the closing credits play for both spinoffs. In the meantime, you can rewatch episodes from this season on Paramount+.
