Feed Your Inner Vampire with Popcorn Coffin Inspired by Robert Eggers' Nosferatu

As a cinephile with decades of movie-going experience under my belt, I must say that the latest trend of collectible popcorn buckets and cups for tentpole films has me absolutely smitten! It’s not just a clever marketing ploy to lure audiences back to theaters, but also an ingenious way to foster a sense of “FOMO” (Fear Of Missing Out) if you don’t manage to secure one. I can already imagine myself proudly displaying my collection like some sort of cinematic trophy case!

Focus Features is joining the popular viral popcorn bucket trend, introducing a movie theater container designed after director Robert Eggers’ eagerly awaited remake of “Nosferatu.” You can purchase tickets for this exciting event right here.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but notice that the bucket under scrutiny isn’t just any ordinary pail, it’s more like a miniature coffin – a replica of the one used by Bill Skarsgård’s Count Orlok in the upcoming “Nosferatu” movie, set to hit theaters nationwide on Christmas Day. This film, along with other high-profile releases, seems to be part of what Gizmodo calls the “2024 Bucket Arms Race.” This competition includes popcorn containers for “Dune: Part Two,” “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” “Deadpool and Wolverine,” “Alien: Romulus,” “Wicked,” “Gladiator II,” and many more.

Lee Meltzer, a seasoned entertainment publicist, avid theater popcorn fan, and founder of Lee Meltzer Consulting, shares his enthusiasm for the latest trend of collectible popcorn containers tied to blockbuster films. He expresses that this trend not only serves as an incentive to draw audiences back into theaters but also fosters ‘fear of missing out’ moments if one fails to acquire one. Lee praises the distributors and exhibitors for their smart marketing strategies!

What is Nosferatu about?

As a fervent admirer, I’m excitedly sharing my perspective on a modern reinterpretation of the 1922 German Expressionist silent film that sparked the vampire genre, Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu”. In this fresh rendition, Lily-Rose Depp (from “Voyagers”) takes on the role of Ellen Hutter, a young woman haunted by a terrifying bloodsucker (Skarsgård). During an exclusive interview with Empire for their 2025 preview issue, Eggers praised Depp, who is Johnny’s daughter if you didn’t know, as a die-hard Dracula fan. He further noted that “She’s watched every Dracula movie and her knowledge is almost encyclopedic.

The actors Nicholas Hoult (from “Renfield”), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“The Fall Guy”), Emma Corrin (“Deadpool & Wolverine”), Ralph Ineson (“The First Omen”), Simon McBurney (“Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”), and Willem Dafoe (“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice”) complete the ensemble.

How to watch Nosferatu in theaters

On Christmas Day, which is this coming Wednesday, December 25th, the film “Nosferatu” will be making its grand entrance in cinemas nationwide! If you’d like to secure your tickets ahead of time, they’re available for purchase right now!

Besides penning and overseeing the direction of his lifelong endeavor, Eggers also serves as a collaborative producer with Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus, and Eleanor Columbus.
