  • Based on interviews with real people
  • Runs for just under half an hour

As an avid gamer with a soft spot for heartwarming narratives, I find myself drawn to the captivating world of Five Years Old Memories. Having experienced the innocence and simplicity of childhood myself, this game seems like a nostalgic journey back to those cherished moments, made even more special by its authenticity – based on real interviews with people just like me!

Artist Komitsu has unveiled the debut of Five Years Old Memories, an endearing interactive story that reminisces about the simpler times of childhood on your iPad. This brief yet delightful journey allows you to revisit your past as you traverse through the stages of your youth using hand-drawn visuals and a relaxing gameplay style.

Title Implies: Five Years Old Memories provides an opportunity for time travel, enabling players to revisit their childhood through genuine interviews with family and acquaintances. The developer spent effort speaking with these individuals, shaping the gameplay around their real-life experiences as a five-year-old, offering you an immersive “sensory journey” where you can manipulate hand-drawn scenes by dragging and dropping objects.

According to Komitsu, this animation is interactive and comprises recollections from his friends about experiences they had when they were around five years old. These memories are drawn from their individual sensory impressions and significant events in their lives.

The runtime is only 15-20 minutes and will set you back by $2.99 a pop. Interview, Animation, and Design credits go to Komitsu, with Shoto Hayakawa as the Engineer and Natsumi Nogawa as the music maestro. The game was crafted as part of the Artists-in-Residence Online program, which, in turn, is organised by the NTT InterCommunication Center.
