‘Freakier Friday’ Stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis Get Big Response for New Footage at CinemaCon

On Thursday, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan assured theater owners that their upcoming comedy “Freakier Friday” is definitely a worthy addition after being in development for 22 years.

Disney showcased their upcoming body-swapping sequel, titled “Freaky Friday,” during their CinemaCon presentation. This movie will be released in theaters on August 8th, over two decades after the original film, “Freaky Friday” (2003), became a massive box office and cultural hit. Additionally, this marks Lindsay Lohan’s highly anticipated return to the big screen.

When Curtis appeared on stage alongside Lohan at CinemaCon, he shared, ‘You’ll witness us transforming into various personas as we trade places with our teenage selves.’ He added, ‘This film was created with immense affection and crafted to be enjoyed in a grand cinema setting, surrounded by a large audience.'”

“At CinemaCon, Curtis and Lohan took the stage. Curtis said, ‘Expect us to switch up our personalities, showing our teenage sides.’ He emphasized, ‘We made this movie to be seen on the big screen, surrounded by a crowd.’

As a thrilled fan, I can’t help but share my excitement over the latest trailer for the film, which dropped earlier this month. In this new installment, my favorite character, Tess, portrayed brilliantly by Curtis, experiences another mind-bending body swap — this time with her daughter, Anna, played skillfully by Lohan. However, it’s not just a simple two-way switch; there’s an intriguing twist as Anna’s daughter (Butters) and her soon-to-be stepdaughter (Hammons) also become part of the swap, making this a four-way body swap extravaganza!

On Thursday, Curtis and Lohan previewed select film scenes to the exhibitors. One of these scenes showed Curtis’ character coaching Lohan’s on how to act like a teenager and flirt, with Chad Michael Murray – who played Jake in Freaky Friday – being the recipient of this flirting. Notably, Murray was still shown riding a motorcycle in the scene.

The movie “Freaky Friday” was originally inspired by Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel and grossed a total of $160 million worldwide (without accounting for inflation). Since then, it has come to be closely associated with the genre of body-swapping stories, leading to other works like the horror film “Freaky” that pay tribute to it.
