On Friday, it was announced that French production companies Rectangle Productions and Goodfellas have finalized their merger.
On November 4, 2024, the film production companies Rectangle and Goodfellas, known for hits like “Emmanuelle” and “Happening”, and responsible for international sales of films such as Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning “The Boy and The Heron” and Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis”, officially merged. For years, Goodfellas had been handling the sales for Rectangle’s productions, including “Emmanuelle”, Valerie Donzelli’s Cannes 2023 film “Just the Two of Us”, and Charlene Favier’s “Oxana”, among others.
The companies announced that the merger was performed “for the benefit of all parties involved” and represented “a significant step forward in the partnership between these established partners.
Rectangle Productions, led by Alice Girard and Edouard Weil, has declared its intention to maintain its brand identity, creative autonomy, associated artists, and all current projects. In a released statement, the company expressed its commitment to carrying on the production of “ambitious films and TV shows in partnership with their regular talents and collaborators.
The merger significantly enhances Goodfellas’ movie and television production sector, while also offering fresh content for their global distribution division.
In the year 2003, Rectangle was established by Weil, and later in 2012, Alice Girard, a fellow producer, joined him. To this day, the company has completed approximately 60 feature films.
