This year has seen an unusually subdued period for Wendy Williams, following the disclosure that she was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, and now resides in a specialized care facility for memory issues. However, she’s been quite vocal lately as she made a comeback to the 2025 TV schedule for a chat with her friends on The View, expressing some firm opinions. Moreover, she has openly expressed her desire to regain control of her life and finances, addressing her appointed guardian in a plea.
For several years, Wendy Williams has been considering a comeback on “The View,” and that opportunity finally presented itself. On March 14, a pre-recorded phone conversation between the co-hosts and the popular media figure was broadcast. In her discussion with her representative Ginalisa Monterroso, Williams clarified rumors about her hospitalization for cognitive tests. She stated that she indeed went for bloodwork related to her thyroid issue and requested the cognitive tests. During her segment on the talk show, Williams added:
Instead of saying “I needed a breath of fresh air,” you could phrase it as “I craved some fresh air.”
“Most importantly, I chose to undergo an independent evaluation regarding my condition, not because I am incapacitated, but because they shouldn’t presume I am incapacitated when I know I am not.
The previous presenter of “The Wendy Williams Show” recently spoke about the assisted living facility she’s resided in for nearly a year, which she once referred to as a “luxury prison.” She explained that she is restricted from leaving her floor and receiving visitors, so she typically spends most of her time in her room. In her own words:
“I’m confined to this floor, can’t leave, and no visitors allowed, so I mostly stay in my room.
I’m only allowed to remain on this designated memory unit floor, which houses individuals aged 90, 80, and 70. Yet, here I am, at 60. Why have I been placed here? Among those who can’t recall anything. Consequently, I spend most of my time in the bedroom.
During this stage of the conversation, Sunny Anderson recited a declaration from Wendy Williams’ guardian’s legal representative, Sabrina Morrisey. In the statement, it was explained that the guardianship was set up due to a judge ruling that Wendy Williams was “legally incapacitated” following her dementia diagnosis. This declaration contradicted Williams’ assertions about being separated from her family, and instead assured that she is receiving high-quality medical attention.
Later on, Wendy Williams expressed her desire to be released from Sabrina Morrisey’s supervision, alluding to Morrisey as her guardian and the judge in the process.
Throughout my life, I’ve been engaged in significant activities, and these two individuals seem to differ profoundly from me in terms of appearance, attire, speech, behavior, and personality. Frankly, I doubt they could ever emulate my uniqueness. I find it necessary for them to cease bothering me.
According to Wendy Williams, it’s more than three years now that a court-assigned guardianship is in place, and she yearns for the freedom to manage her personal life and finances herself.
This week, Ginalisa Monterroso, an advocate, mentioned that a 60-year-old individual is undergoing tests with the goal of transitioning them into a more lenient setting. The outcome remains uncertain until the test results are revealed, but for her admirers, simply hearing that familiar voice brought relief. We can only hope that whatever decisions are made will prioritize Wendy Williams’ wellbeing.
