What To Expect from ‘MobLand’

Ronan Bennett developed a crime drama series called “MobLand,” which takes place in the shady corners of London. Originally, this production was intended as a prequel spin-off from Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” titled “The Donovans.” The concept revolved around portraying the journey that Ray (Liev Schreiber) and his father Mickey (Jon Voight) took into their criminal ways and the struggles they faced when trying to escape.

When progress stalled, the series underwent a transformation and shifted its setting to London. Tentative titles for the show were “The Associate” and “The Fixer.” However, with the transition from Showtime to Paramount+, it was eventually renamed “MobLand.

According to Paramount+’s official press release:

MobLand”

The story revolves around the Harrigans and Stevensons, two powerful London crime families locked in a ruthless conflict. This vicious struggle has the potential to bring down empires and destroy countless lives. Amidst this chaos is Harry Da Souza (Hardy), a cunning and deadly ‘fixer’ who navigates the treacherous world of conflicting loyalties with ease, due to his intimate understanding of the dangerous intersection between allegiance and survival. As one kingdom confronts another, boundaries will be breached – but there is one unbreakable rule: family comes first, no matter what.

The Harrigan clan, consisting of Conrad (played by Brosnan), Maeve (Mirren), their sons Kevin (Considine) and Brendan (Betts), daughter Seraphina (Dhillon), as well as Kevin’s wife Bella (Pulver) and their volatile son Eddie (Boon), finds their grip on London’s criminal empire challenged by the relentless Stevenson gang, headed by the formidable Richie (Bell).

In this narrative, I, Harry Da Souza – often referred to as the crucial pivot – find myself in a precarious position sandwiched between two notorious crime clans. Much like Ray Donovan, I serve as a trusted troubleshooter, resolving issues for criminals and getting paid handsomely for it. My journey unfolds alongside my wife, Jan (Joanne Froggatt), and confidante Zosia (Jasmine Jobson). Together, we strive to preserve harmony in London’s underbelly while ensuring our family’s security and prosperity.

‘MobLand’ Marks a Ritchie-Hardy Reunion

The upcoming film, titled “MobLand“, brings together director Guy Ritchie and actor Tom Hardy once more, having previously worked together on the 2008 British crime movie “RocknRolla“. At that time, Hardy was less recognized in the industry, but has since risen to international stardom and is now synonymous with the Venom series as Eddie Brock. Similarly, “MobLand” also reassembles Hardy with director Anthony Byrne, who helmed the acclaimed British gangster TV show “Peaky Blinders“, in which Hardy appeared 13 times from 2014 to 2022. In this series, he portrayed Alfie Solomons, a character that is being developed into a feature film titled “The Immortal Man“.

In a new turn of events, Hardy is once again working with Ritchie and Byrne, but this time, he’ll be appearing alongside Pierce Brosnan, who was formerly James Bond. This collaboration between Ritchie and Brosnan is a first, as is their joint venture with Brosnan on the screen. In an interview with GQ, Brosnan revealed that the final two episodes of MobLand were shot in The Cotswolds, shifting the criminal action from London’s streets to this picturesque location.

This is undeniably one of the most stunning areas in the English countryside; it’s a gem, an oasis. It serves as the core, the pulse of MobLand, where my character dwells. We’re now on episode nine, and things are really taking off! We’re thoroughly enjoying our journey within the universe crafted by Guy Ritchie, so everything is going smoothly, indeed. Only one more episode remains.

Starting on March 30, 2025 and running for ten weeks until June 1, new episodes of the show MobLand will air every Sunday, making it an unmissable weekly event.
