This movie might be one of the shortest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but don’t let its length fool you. It’s bursting with so much Marvel history that a dedicated fan could get dizzy trying to keep up. For those who have longed for decades to witness iconic adversaries like Red Hulk and The Leader on the silver screen, “Bold New Horizon” finally brings them into the limelight for the first time. However, another antagonist was introduced during reshoots for the fourth Captain America film, and it appears their influence will echo through the MCU for years to come.

During a chat with ABC, the actor Giancarlo Esposito, known for his role as Sidewinder in Brave New World, hinted at his character’s transformation into the leader of the Serpent Society in an upcoming project. He playfully suggested that this villain will get messy, with Esposito set to showcase physical prowess not yet seen from the Breaking Bad veteran. The trailers reveal Sidewinder wearing a common coat and military gear, which is quite different from his vibrant comic book counterpart. Esposito expresses eagerness for future MCU appearances to let him delve deeper into the serpent persona, potentially displaying a broader spectrum of colors.

I included some of Sidewinder’s colors in the outfit I’m currently wearing, hoping it might spark inspiration for future films where I can further embody the serpent character. It’s a role unlike any I’ve played before – this character is proficient with firearms and close combat weapons, and I’ll be bringing a lot of physicality to the performance, including punches, kicks, and other action-packed moves.

Since the initial trailer was released, there’s been some mystery surrounding Esposito’s character in “Captain America: Brave New World.” Despite recent news suggesting that most members of the Serpent Society have been cut from the final movie, Sidewinder continues to be a significant figure in both promotional materials and the main cast. It appears Marvel may intend to reintroduce him in some capacity down the line, given his talent on TV. The fact that his character was added during reshoots is a bit concerning, especially considering there are already two primary antagonists. However, Marvel has been eager to introduce the sinister reptile-themed group for quite some time now.

So… What Is the Serpent Society?

Giancarlo Esposito portrays the character Seth Voelker, also known as Sidewinder, who rules over the Serpent Society and often clashes with Captain America. The organization of villains themed around snakes seems a bit cheesy visually, but it appears that in “Captain America: Brave New World,” they will be taking a more subtle approach for now. Besides Esposito, this film was expected to feature actors like Rosa Salazar (Alita: Battle Angel) as Rachel Leighton aka Diamondback and WWE star Seth Rollins as Klaus Voorhees aka Cobra. Unfortunately, it seems their roles in the movie might have been significantly reduced or possibly cut out altogether.

Longtime Marvel Cinematic Universe enthusiasts recall that when Captain America: Civil War was initially announced, it was humorously suggested as Serpent Society to misdirect from the major crossover film’s plotline. Later on, before Brave New World , it was unveiled that the iconic Captain America adversaries, the Serpent Society, would appear in the upcoming sequel. However, their significance appears to have diminished compared to the antagonists linked to the Hulk, Red Hulk and The Leader.
