God Hand Creator Says He Wants To Bring The Franchise Back

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that God Hand is a gem hidden within the annals of PlayStation history. Its unapologetic humor and over-the-top combat have earned it a devoted following, and rightfully so. If given the chance, I wholeheartedly believe that Shinji Mikami would breathe new life into this franchise with a God Hand 2. However, considering Capcom’s current ownership of the IP and Shinji’s departure from Capcom, it seems like a pipe dream… unless we start a petition to convince Capcom to let Shinji back in the driver’s seat!

Story Highlights

  • God Hand is a PlayStation exclusive, developed by the now-defunct Clover Studio.
  • The game, tracing its release back to 2006, has long been abandoned by its creators.
  • Shinji Mikami, the person who developed God Hand, says he wants to bring this franchise back the most.

Among the top-tier PlayStation games, God Hand holds a special place for me and countless others, even though certain aspects of the game have sparked controversy over time. However, these issues are minor enough that they don’t warrant dismissing the series entirely. In fact, it has been a beloved title for the past 18 years. The game’s over-the-top humor and relentless, unabashed combat have earned it a dedicated fanbase, and justifiably so.

Regarding the topic, Shinji Mikami — known for creating the God Hand series — expressed his thoughts during this year’s Gamescom to Wccftech. When asked about a past project he’d like to revisit, his answer was swift: “God Hand 2” is the project he most desires to work on according to his aspirations.

A New God Hand Game Unsupervised By Shinji Wouldn’t Be The Same

It’s unlikely that God Hand would be revived by Capcom without Shinji at the core, given he no longer works for them. I delved into the game extensively in another piece, praising its offbeat humor, retro-style combat, and unique gaming experience unparalleled anywhere else.

Replicating all of that without the man in charge would be problematic right out of the gate.

At the same Gamescom gathering, Shinji expressed thoughts on Dino Crisis as well. However, his comments may not be dismissed lightly by fans. He seems to find it surprising that with Monster Hunter’s growing popularity, there is a strong demand for a new Dino Crisis game, which he feels shouldn’t exist in the first place.
