It’s unclear if Halle Berry is being truthful or keeping secrets about returning as Storm in “Avengers: Doomsday.” During the five-hour livestream for the movie, there were many surprises, one of which was the discussion of seven different X-Men members. Given that all indications suggest “Avengers: Doomsday” might secretly be an adaptation of “Avengers vs. X-Men,” the absence of actors like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Famke Jensen as Jean Grey, and Halle Berry as Storm is noteworthy.
At Cinema Con, The Associated Press inquired if Halle Berry might return as Storm in “Avengers: Doomsday”. The interviewer expressed hope for Berry’s involvement, suggesting they look forward to seeing her name on the list of cast members when Marvel Studios officially announces their next project. In response, the Academy Award-winning actress chuckled and indicated her possible participation with a lighthearted remark.
“Well, keep waiting because it’s not going to be there. [Laughs] It’s not going to be there.”
Originated by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum, the character Storm debuted in “Giant-Size X-Men” #1, published in May 1975 during Marvel’s significant revamp of the title. This reboot ultimately transformed the comic into the well-loved version fans know today. Storm is renowned as one of the most recognized X-Men members. Halle Berry portrayed Storm first in the 2000 film “X-Men,” and her role expanded in the sequels, “X2: X-Men United” and “X-Men: The Last Stand,” after she won an Academy Award for her performance in “Monsters Ball.” Berry’s final appearance as Storm was in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” in 2014. Alexander Shipp took on the role of a younger version of Storm in “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Is Halle Berry Lying, or Is She Telling the Truth?
There’s a strong chance that Halle Berry could be following in Andrew Garfield’s footsteps by misleading us about her role in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Fans remain optimistic that they’ll learn about Berry reprising her Storm character during Disney’s CinemaCon event or San Diego Comic-Con in July. The possibility of Storm joining the MCU was hinted at in Season 3 of “What If…?”, where a Storm character, using Thor’s hammer, was part of Captain Carter’s team of Exiles.
Although there’s a chance Berry could be truthful about not appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, it’s plausible this decision stems from Marvel and Disney possibly struggling to meet her salary demands, given their financial commitments for the Russo brothers and Robert Downey Jr. For Doomsday, budget constraints might necessitate some cost-cutting. Berry’s history with problematic production environments, such as her conflicts with Bryan Singer on the X-Men films, could also explain why she may not be eager to reprise her role as Storm.
It would be quite a letdown if Marvel Studios didn’t include Storm in future projects, particularly if Avengers: Doomsday turns out to be an Avengers vs. X-Men storyline. Leaving out a match between Storm and the mighty Thor on screen would seem like a lost chance. The idea of Halle Berry reprising her role as Storm alongside the original cast members such as Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), James Marsden (Cyclops), Famke Jensen (Jean Grey), and Patrick Stewart (Professor X) is simply too enticing to ignore. Here’s hoping that Berry’s appearance in Marvel Studios is just clever public relations strategy.
