Hallmark’s Big Kansas City Chiefs Movie Is Hoping For A Sequel–But I Have One Big Request For Holiday Touchdown 2

As a die-hard Chiefs fan living mere miles from Arrowhead Stadium and having attended more games than I can count, the anticipation for Hallmark’s “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” was palpable. With Kansas City fever running high, it’s no wonder this movie became the most-watched on the network this season. Now, as the cast hints at a sequel, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation.

The highly anticipated Hallmark Christmas movie this season, which seems to be everyone’s favorite, is none other than “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story“. This film has been the most-watched program on cable this season. Given its popularity, it’s no surprise that the cast is hoping for a second chance at happiness with a sequel. However, I do have one significant request.

For quite some time prior to its 2024 television premiere, there had been much buzz surrounding the film. This included news about Mama Donna Kelce making an appearance, which was particularly intriguing given my proximity to Kansas City and past visits to Arrowhead Stadium. Add to that the spectacle of the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce relationship unfolding on screen, and I found myself eagerly anticipating the release. It’s not hard to believe that others felt the same way. In fact, the film’s success as the No.1 box office hit has led the cast to hope for a potential sequel.

Discussing with folks, it appears that the cast of “Holiday Touchdown” is optimistic for a new season. In particular, the leading actor, Ed Begley Jr, has expressed interest and proposed a fresh installment, stating:

We had the best time ever. We want to do it again. Let’s do a sequel.

Additionally, Megyn Price, the actress portraying Alana’s mother in the film, has dropped a significant hint about what we might expect from Holiday Touchdown 2. They’ve already decided on a subtitle, which she playfully suggests but I believe it holds some truth. It seems quite promising.

Yeah, we’re pitching the sequel now. We’re calling it ‘The Extra Point.’

If you found yourself questioning whether that remark referred to an infant, the actors clarified it did, albeit they also emphasized that this was a spontaneous idea they came up with on set, not a plotline that Hallmark has formally proposed for their upcoming holiday movie lineup next year.

What I’d Like To See In Holiday Touchdown 2

Still, Hallmark does enjoy a good sequel to some of its most popular films, though if it moves forward, here’s my one big request.

The central idea behind “Holiday Touchdown” revolved around enthusiastic fans sharing beloved stories or symbols about the Kansas City Chiefs to demonstrate their fervor. The Chiefs team then reviewed these submissions, selected the best ones, and invited votes from fans for their favorites. Meanwhile, a staff member named Derrik (Tyler Hynes) formed a connection with Alana’s family. Initially, they disagreed over her tale about a hat that allegedly brings luck to the Chiefs, which had gone missing for a while. However, as they overcame their differences regarding the magical hat, they discovered they might share more common ground than initially thought.

To put it straight, I strongly disliked the magic hat. It’s challenging for me to articulate just how much I didn’t care for the main plot in this film. If, unfortunately, the Chiefs don’t secure the Super Bowl win this season, a rather forced resolution will likely be required in the next installment. Frankly, the only aspect that made this storyline slightly tolerable was Derrik’s skepticism towards it.

Furthermore, are you implying that Patrick Mahomes wouldn’t have taken home the championship? Upon reflection, perhaps the film was correct in its portrayal as some people dislike cats, though fewer cat-themed antics in the potential sequel would be appreciated.

Holiday Touchdown truly shone during its emotional scenes, such as when Derrick presented the original Chiefs stadium seats as a touching keepsake to remind the family of their late matriarch grandmother. Additionally, moments where the family shared stories and laughter about past memories with the Chiefs family were heartwarming and comforting. Overall, these tender moments, combined with its romantic theme, made for a heartfelt viewing experience.

Initially, I found myself engaged when it came to the holiday theme and Santa’s involvement in the plot – a common theme often seen in Hallmark Christmas movies. However, I must admit that my enthusiasm waned as the movie unfolded. Despite my anticipation for Holiday Touchdown to be one of the standout Hallmark productions in 2024 due to its impressive cast (including Ed Begley Jr.) and additional cameos, I felt it didn’t live up to its potential. Instead, the overall execution fell short compared to some of its individual elements.

Of course, fans showed great interest and I’m eager to discover what a follow-up might offer. Could I humbly suggest that the film hints at the enchanted hat in this instance?
