Happy Birthday Durgesh Kumar: When Alia Bhatt admitted being a fan of Panchayat actor’s dancing skills

As a dedicated follower, I must say Durgesh Kumar is undoubtedly a gem of an actor we have in our industry today. His journey from playing a minor role in Imtiaz Ali’s “Highway” to becoming the beloved Bhushan in “Panchayat” is truly inspiring.

On this very day, October 21st, we’re celebrating Durgesh Kumar’s birthday, a name that echoes through households following his memorable role as Bhushan/Banrakas in Panchayat, a cherished series. Known for his hilarious antics on social media, today we take a trip down memory lane to when the actor shared that Alia Bhatt admired his dancing prowess during filming of Imtiaz Ali’s Highway.

Previously, Durgesh Kumar shared with Spotlight Magazine his experience collaborating with Alia Bhatt on Highway. He recalled that when they first met, she came across as a cheerful young girl instead of the diva he had anticipated. Later, he praised their time working together as fantastic and referred to Alia as the Jigra actress.

As a seasoned lifestyle guide, I’d rephrase it this way: In the movie Panchayat, I, as an actor, portray a role that perceives the dynamic between my character and Alia Bhatt’s character akin to sibling relationships, with my character treating her character as a cherished younger sister.

He shared that the dance routine we performed together has created quite a stir, and it was an absolute joy to film it. Following our shoot, Alia mentioned she admired my dancing abilities, which he considers a significant compliment since he was simply expressing himself without overthinking his steps.

In the same interview, Durgesh spoke about his joy following the role assignment in Imtiaz Ali’s movie. He revealed that for 26 days straight, he didn’t take a bath and went without sleep for two days, aiming to fully embody the character. However, instead of being wowed by Durgesh’s effort, the director explained that he prefers his actors to come across as natural on screen.

In simpler terms, as the actor strolled along reminiscent paths, he acknowledged Ali’s patience towards him. He emphasized that his role required a sugary-sweet charm with a hint of humor. Consequently, whenever he performed, the entire crew would burst into uncontrollable laughter on set.

During one of our earliest scenes where Alia and I first interacted, our cinematographer Anil Mehta burst out laughing. This was because I delivered the scene with such a strong sense of belief, as I later confided.

Durgesh was last seen in Panchayat Season 3 earlier this year.
