The upcoming film, which is Jesse Armstrong‘s next project following “Succession”, has revealed its principal cast members and plans to start filming shortly. HBO has also shared a tentative release date, indicating that it will likely premiere during the spring season.
In the upcoming movie, actors Steve Carell (“The Office”, “The Patient”), Jason Schwartzman (“Bored to Death”, “Megalopolis”), Cory Michael Smith (“Saturday Night Live”) and Ramy Youssef (“Ramy”, “Poor Things”) will be featured. Their characters are a group of wealthy friends who convene amidst the unfolding international crisis, as described in the movie’s synopsis.
The movie, for now, remains untitled or its title hasn’t been disclosed. An initial page from Armstrong’s script was shared by HBO, however, the title appears blurred, giving an impression that it may have smudged due to moisture.
The filming will commence towards the end of this month in Park City, Utah. Given that HBO aims to premiere the movie during the spring, it seems we’ll be working under a fairly packed schedule, potentially with the goal of making Emmy consideration dates.
I’m curious if spending time with such talented actors and directors on ‘Succession’ has influenced me in any way. Here’s to it having done so! I’m thankful to Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, and the entire HBO team for their unwavering support of this project and for helping me assemble an exceptional cast and crew.” (Armstrong stated)
Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president for programming and head of drama series and films, expressed her joy at resuming their partnership with Jesse Armstrong, following their successful collaboration on “Succession.” Armstrong delves deeper yet again, presenting a daring portrayal of contemporary greed, power, and male ambition. Given that this project marks his directorial debut, it promises to further enrich the already compelling narrative. We can’t wait to unveil this timely film to the world shortly.
HBO unveiled a new movie in January; this marks Armstrong’s debut as a TV writer since Succession concluded its award-winning four-season run in 2023 (he is also an executive producer on Michaela Coel’s upcoming HBO/BBC series “First Day on Earth”). Similarly, Carell is part of the HBO family, as he will star in a comedic series for the premium network from Bill Lawrence, who co-created “Shrinking” and “Ted Lasso”.
