Hollywood Reporter, Spike Lee: Trump Is Silencing His Critics!

The Biden administration’s war on free speech remains an unwritten story in the Legacy Press.

And it will stay that way.

Indeed, those journalists who have been previously criticized for downplaying President Joe Biden’s perceived cognitive decline during the past election cycle are now facing criticism for not addressing his attempts to curtail free speech in the last four years as well. The Twitter Files merely scratched the surface of this issue.

And we’re learning new details about the Biden team’s mission all the time.

Currently, certain media sources claim that President Donald Trump is attempting to “muzzle” or suppress his detractors. However, it’s important to question who exactly these critics are and how he is supposedly silencing them.

We shouldn’t worry too much about minor points as they might be irrelevant. Asserting that Harvard University should cease favoritism towards Jewish students is still just an assertion and not a concrete issue.

At all.

Instead, let’s push out that fear-mongering message to the masses. Enter The Hollywood Reporter.

In a conversation with the progressive media outlet, director Spike Lee discussed his forthcoming project with Denzel Washington (“Highest 2 Lowest”) as well as various other subjects. Predictably, the interviewer also delved into Lee’s thoughts about President Trump.

Are you concerned that Donald Trump’s attempts to suppress criticism might affect your freedom of speech, given your long-standing opposition to him dating back to the 1980s?

PARAPHRASING: LEE: Did you catch De Niro’s comments about him? As someone who grew up in the ’70s, I believe our nation’s history has been shaped significantly by artists. The Vietnam War, the music, and films reflected our struggles. Black, white, and brown people united against a war they thought was unjust. Incidents like Jackson State and Kent State were powerful reminders of this. The Democratic Convention in Chicago and the police’s aggressive actions stand out as well. They cried out, “The whole world is watching.” However, it’s still startling. We haven’t seen anything quite like what this person is doing, not even Nixon.

As a tenured professor at NYU, I have numerous students and it’s my responsibility to guide them. Before the spring break, the school administration issued a warning: “Stay here during spring break.” Given the current global situation, this seems alarming, especially for international students with clean records. This year indeed feels like living on the edge.

No facts. No proof. No examples. Just fear.

I was recently honored to receive an invitation from President Trump to dine at the White House, despite our differences in opinion. Yet, true to form, I continued to express my views and offer constructive criticism where necessary. After all, that’s what democracy is all about.

Is it possible for President Trump to overstep his bounds? Absolutely, as history has shown that even his predecessors have done so, with media outlets and figures such as Lee choosing not to intervene.

Silence. Nothing.

As a film enthusiast, I’ve spent the last ten years listening to countless voices – stars, journalists, and everyone in between – voicing their harshest critiques about Trump. Yet, I can’t help but wonder, have any of these voices been silenced through arrests or punishments? Is it possible that Jimmy Kimmel, one of the most vocal critics, is now staring at the cold, rat-infested walls of a gulag? The freedom of speech we hold so dear in this country seems to be hanging by a thread.

Is it clear to everyone that the answer is “no”? Does Lee, or THR, genuinely appear fearful when criticizing President Trump in their statements?

Of course not.

Stars similar to Lee found themselves silenced amidst the surge of Cancel Culture across America. He remained mostly unheard as “sensitivity readers” censored works by authors such as Ian Fleming and Roald Dahl. He failed to speak up in support of Jeanine Cummins, an author who faced criticism from the progressive community due to her ethnicity.

Now, Lee is sounding the alarm about free speech.

Spare us.
