The latest Marvel Rivals update on Steam Deck has been problematic, transforming the thrilling multiplayer encounter into a choppy performance. This has frustrated numerous players as the game was quite playable prior to this update. However, there is a method to make it function temporarily until NetEase Games issues a suitable update.
Given that Apex Legends 2 is no longer compatible with Deck, it’s reassuring that the game can still thrive on Valve’s portable device. Although the mini PC is showing signs of aging, many enthusiasts continue to use it, and developers strive to achieve the “Verified” status. Let’s hope future updates will cater better to this handheld system.
Now, without further ado, here’s how to improve the Steam Deck performance of Marvel Rivals.
Proton Hotfix
Until a fresh update becomes available, players should switch their game’s compatibility to Proton Hotfix to enjoy it on Deck. Fortunately, this procedure is quite straightforward, so there’s no need for concern. Just follow these guidelines, and you’ll be back to playing Rivals in no time.
- Go to Marvel Rivals
- Click the gear icon
- Then choose Properties
- Press Compatibility
- Choose Proton Hotfix as the Steam Play compatibility tool
Ensure you adjust the proton settings when the game is not running. If you find the game unsatisfactory after turning it on and altering the settings, the changes may not take effect immediately. Instead, shut down the game, modify the settings, then restart the game.
Turn off Frame Generation
If Marvel Rivals players are satisfied with the game’s performance following the application of the Proton Hotfix, there’s no need for further action. But if the game continues to seem choppy or unresponsive for some players, disabling Frame Generation could potentially improve the experience.
- Go to the gear icon in Rivals
- Choose Settings
- Pick Display
- Head to AMD FSR3 Frame Regeneration and turn it off
For some gamers, choosing Frame Regeneration may be appealing due to its smoothness in gameplay framerate. However, it’s important to note that characters can appear somewhat weightless when this feature is enabled. If you find the game enjoyable with Frame Regeneration, then by all means continue using it. For those who might prefer a more grounded feel, you may want to turn off this option.
Here’s what we currently understand regarding enhancing Marvel Rivals on Steam Deck; further updates are expected from NetEase Games. To learn more about Rivals, explore the latest details on Emma Frost and discover the top Vanguards in the game.
