Set between 1910 and 1989, the original Apple series unfolds across Korea, Japan, and the U.S., featuring Yuh-Jung Youn, an Academy Award-winning actress, as Sunja. Initially portrayed as a young girl by Yu-na Jeon, then as a teenager and young woman by Minha Kim, Sunja is born into poverty in a fishing village near Busan. Her life takes a turn when she encounters a Japanese fish broker (Lee Minho), prompting her to embark on a new journey in Osaka.

Actor Jin Ha portrays Solomon, Sunja’s grandson who is a finance executive in New York City. Solomon travels to Japan with the intention of negotiating a land deal between a hotel and a tenacious Korean landowner. During his visit, he rekindles relationships with his grandmother and father, Baek Mozasu (played by Soji Arai), who amassed wealth through gambling on pachinko, a popular Japanese arcade game similar to pinball. The series ‘Pachinko’ also features Emmy-nominated actress Anna Sawai, Jimmi Simpson, Mari Yamamoto, Choi Joon-Young, Steve Sang-Hyun Noh and Kaho Minami.
