From the trailer of “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” Jenna Ortega’s role appears mysterious. The sneak peek presents scenes where she seems to apologize to an on-screen Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) for an unspecified action, and in another instance, she is shown pouring gasoline inside a house before hastily leaving. However, her true identity remains undisclosed. To learn more about her character, Jenna Ortega herself spoke to Entertainment Weekly, providing intriguing hints that only deepen the curiosity surrounding her role in this upcoming movie.

During filming, it seemed to me that my character, Anima, represents a less-exposed aspect of Abel, a side not typically portrayed by The Weeknd. As the drafts of the script evolved, there were several variations of Ani, but I particularly appreciated her unyielding boldness and deep sensitivity.

It’s intriguing to ponder whether Anima is a genuine person or simply a creation birthed from Abel’s imagination. In this psychological thriller, Anima might serve as an actual influence on Abel’s actions, or she could represent his internal conflicts, emotions, and aspirations in the guise of a female character. Given how captivating the trailer is, exploring Abel’s mental landscape may blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy.

Jenna Ortega has demonstrated her versatility through her roles in “Wednesday” and “Scream.” Yet, the upcoming film “Hurry Up Tomorrow” offers her an unique chance to tackle a complex character and display a wider range of emotions. Initially, she felt the role wasn’t suitable for her. However, discussions with The Weeknd and his team changed her mind, leading her to express interest in being involved. She stated:

“I didn’t initially feel right for this part, but after speaking with The Weeknd and his team, I realized this was a project I wanted to be a part of.

At first, I wasn’t confident that I would be a good fit for it. However, as we talked more and my trust in Trey and Abel grew, it seemed like a collaborative effort and a shared vision that I was eager to be part of.

Previously, Abel Tesfaye expressed his delight in collaborating with Ortega on set, finding her ability to breathe life into an unscripted scene truly impressive. In addition, he shared with Entertainment Weekly that he considered himself remarkably fortunate to work alongside her.

Director Trey Edward Shults praised Ortega as well, stating that she is “extremely gifted” and he was eager for viewers to witness her in a fresh perspective through his movie. Given the actress from You‘s ability to astonish both critics and spectators with each role she embodies, I can hardly envision Hurry Up Tomorrow being any less impressive.

However, according to the Canadian artist, his upcoming sixth album, titled “Hurry Up Tomorrow“, will mark the end of his musical persona and he plans to use his birth name, Abel Tesfaye, from now on.
