As a seasoned golf enthusiast with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that 2024 has been an exceptional year for golf fashion collaborations. The variety and creativity showcased by these partnerships have truly elevated the game’s style quotient.
2024 saw numerous collaborations proving beneficial for both small and large brands. These partnerships bridge different realms, and while golf is gaining more acceptance in popular culture due to these cross-cultural connections, there’s still work to be done to convince the general public that golf is truly “hip.” Recent collaborations like Kith with TaylorMade and Miura with Reigning Champ are examples of this trend. On the flip side, progressive labels can gain credibility and authenticity by teaming up with traditional brands, as demonstrated by Maxfli with Metalwood and Malbon with adidas.
Ignoring the cultural nuances for a moment, collaborative collections are simply enjoyable. While some may grow tired of them in popular culture due to concerns about authenticity, golf hasn’t yet reached a stage where such collaborations are overly common. This gives room for innovative collaborations that go beyond simple logo placement to thrive and drive the industry forward.
2024 saw numerous exceptional partnerships in the realm of golf apparel, yet these ten truly stood out.
Miura x Reigning Champ
1957 marks the beginning of Miura, a renowned golf equipment manufacturer recognized for its painstaking grain-forged iron sets. In contrast, Reigning Champ is an athletic streetwear brand celebrated for its superior quality apparel. This duo shares a mutual appreciation for craftsmanship – a shared passion that led to their collaboration. One of our favorite items this year, the Miura x Reigning Champ Dot Air Condor Pullover Black, is a versatile, lightweight top that can be effortlessly tucked into the side pocket of a golf bag. It provides just the right amount of warmth for those in-between seasons such as fall or spring days.
Quiet Golf x Holderness & Bourne
2024 sees the expansion of Quiet Golf, a label grounded in minimalism and streetwear, into traditional golf apparel, set to be distributed via country club networks. Although this new line won’t become available until next year, its collaboration with Holderness & Bourne – a brand of similar scale appealing to an avid golf audience – serves as a sneak peek. This partnership resulted in many popular items that have built Holderness & Bourne’s own devoted fanbase, such as micro-stripe polos with structured collars and subtle quarter-zip pullovers.
FJ by Jon Buscemi 2024
After four years, Jon Buscemi’s FJ line consistently exceeds expectations. Although the fundamental design (white leather upper and gold hardware details) stays consistent, the master of luxury footwear always manages to introduce refreshing changes. In 2023, a speckled midsole was introduced, while in 2024, a kelly green outsole was added as a novelty. The most recent collaboration also presented a new shape: the Field LX. This derby-style shoe features a full-length mudguard, accentuated in this case with patent leather.
Jimmy Choo x Malbon
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve noticed how luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci have dabbled in golf, with mixed results. But Jimmy Choo chose to take a different path, teaming up with Malbon for their golf know-how on the course. The partnership resulted in a line of products that showcased Jimmy Choo’s style more prominently than usual, which is quite unusual for a Malbon collaboration. The spikeless golf shoes we got had the iconic Jimmy Choo diamond pattern on the midsoles, while the golf bags proudly displayed the JC monogram all over.
Kith for TaylorMade 2024
In 2023, one of the most energetic partnerships from the previous year paused its activities, but in 2024 it made a comeback, even more spectacular than before. The unique flair of Kith’s creative language provided an immediate advantage, and the joint reputation of Kith and TaylorMade helped secure Jimmy Fallon as the main star for their campaign. This time, the limited-edition clubs were particularly impressive compared to the clothing. Unlike standard sets of irons that maintain a consistent look from the pitching wedge to the long irons, Kith and TaylorMade designed a set that changes from chrome to black.
Happy Life Wood x Jordan
Despite some skepticism about Nike’s commitment in the golf sector, they are persistently expanding their reach through strategic releases of the Jordan line throughout the season. For the Masters tournament, Jordan and Humphrey capitalized on Nike’s narrative prowess, offering a chance to an independent artist in the process. The design of the Air Jordan 9 Golf was influenced by Happy Life Wood’s distinctive technique of transforming wood into lifelike forms.
Malbon x adidas The Crosby Collection
In 2024, one of the major partnerships between Malbon and adidas was the Crosby Collection, which surpassed previous collaborations in terms of quality. While collaborations with famous figures who have passed away can sometimes be questionable, the Crosby Collection appears to be something that Bing Crosby might have donned himself. Among our favorites were the white and yellow cardigan, the wingtipped MC87 shoes, and the breezy women’s culotte pants.
Students x Realtree
2024 saw Camo making significant strides on the golf course. Despite the camouflage pattern fluctuating in popular style, its history as practical outdoor attire keeps it tied to golf. The partnership with Realtree, a brand favored by hunters and streetwear enthusiasts, was a significant milestone for Camo, as they aim to emulate golf’s version of Supreme. This collaboration extended to pants, long-sleeved tees, polo shirts, and shorts made from heavyweight cotton twill. Even golf club covers were included, allowing you to coordinate your outfit with your clubs.
Maxfli by Metalwood
As a brand that draws inspiration from the golf fashion trends of the 90s and 2000s, it’s hard to imagine a more fitting partner for Metalwood than Maxfli. Though Maxfli was established in 1910, it truly shone some 20-30 years later when casual golfers fell in love with the Revolution golf balls for their impressive distance and affordable price. This unique collaboration seeks to capitalize on Maxfli’s heritage by using vintage ad campaigns as screenprinted designs and even replicating the iconic pinstriped hat that Michael Jordan once sported.
Metalwood x FootJoy Golf Sneaker
In 2023, the Metalwood x FootJoy Premiere Series shoe dressed in fake snakeskin garnered much attention, with its successor featuring a full-length interwoven mudguard in 2024 living up to expectations. However, the Metalwood x FJ Golf Sneaker stands out on this list due to its unexpected nature. Although the design has been winning hearts recently, it wasn’t initially intended to be a major player in the FootJoy lineup. Yet, the innovative mind of Metalwood Cole Young saw potential for an ironic “dad shoe” twist, and the end result was beautifully crafted with nostalgic teal accents, a subtly yellowed midsole, and soft terry cloth lining.
