‘I Destroy A Lot Of Takes’: Rob Lowe Tells Us What Wayne’s World Taught Him About Comedy, And How It Helps On Unstable

As a longtime fan who’s witnessed Rob Lowe’s metamorphosis from a talented actor to a hilarious personality, I can confidently say that his journey has been nothing short of captivating. From his days as a Brat Pack member to his dramatic roles and now his comedic stints, he’s proven time and again that he’s got the chops for any genre.

Over the course of his career, Rob Lowe has evolved from a skilled actor who worked alongside comedic greats, into a comedian who delivers humor with finesse himself. The present host of “The Floor” has experienced numerous changes in his profession, starting as a member of the cast in “The Outsiders” and being part of The Brat Pack, then transitioning to a serious dramatic actor, and now also a comedian known for impeccable comic timing. Much of this talent is showcased in Lowe’s ongoing streaming series “Unstable,” accessible to anyone with a Netflix subscription. In an interview with TopMob about his work on the show, Lowe credited some of its success to “Wayne’s World.

In the series “Unstable”, Rob Lowe stars as the brilliant founder of a high-tech bio research facility, forming a bond with his son (portrayed by Rob’s real-life son, John Owen Lowe) when he joins the lab. However, in Season 2, Saturday Night Live alum Fred Armisen steals the show with his expanded role as a therapist interacting closely with Rob Lowe’s character, Ellis. The absurd scenarios that “Unstable” places Armisen in are almost unbelievable – even featuring a notable nude scene by Rob Lowe – making me wonder how Rob and John Owen manage to keep their cool during the filming of those humorous scenes. It must be challenging for them.

But Rob Lowe explained to TopMob:

In the prime of their careers, I received training alongside Mike Myers and Dana Carvey during the making of Wayne’s World. I had a tendency to ruin many takes in that production, which led me to reflect and improve. Now, I take pride in maintaining my composure on set – something I no longer do. However, Johnny often struggles with this aspect.

Afterward, Rob Lowe publicly admitted that there’s a significant amount of unusable footage from the Netflix series “Unstable” due to instances where his son, John Owen Lowe, deviated from character. Despite this, Rob Lowe has consistently expressed delight at having his son work alongside him on this project. However, it seems that John Owen Lowe often disrupts filming by breaking character.

Yet, during the production of Unstable Season 2, John Owen Lowe revealed something he’s particularly proud of when speaking to TopMob.

In fact, I will say, I’m the only person I’ve seen on set make Fred break. And we have it on tape. … There’s a moment where (Fred’s character) attacks me with a physical object. And I think it’s just a noise that I made that he liked.

Apart from his experience on “Wayne’s World”, Rob Lowe put in an extraordinary effort to ensure smooth takes during the highly amusing NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation”. This could be due to his reputation as a demanding performer.

Right now, you can catch the unpredictable comedy “Unstable” on Netflix! It’s got two hilarious seasons waiting for you to enjoy Rob Lowe without a single flubbed take.
