Many initially came to know Kristen Bell through her role in the mystery drama series ‘Veronica Mars’, which ran from 2004 to 2007. However, Bell didn’t stop portraying Veronica, the crime-solving protagonist; she and several of her co-stars reprised their roles for the movie adaptation in 2014, and later for the Hulu exclusive Season 4 in 2019. Regrettably, a fifth season of ‘Veronica Mars’ never came to fruition, and when I questioned Enrico Colantoni, who played Keith (Veronica’s father), he shared an intriguing response from creator Rob Thomas about the potential direction for this saga’s continuation.
When I brought up his appearance on Suits LA and shared my thoughts on Galaxy Quest being a source of pride, Colantoni graciously shared his views on Veronica Mars. To my question about whether he was satisfied with the show’s ending or if he wished to revisit it for Season 5, he candidly expressed:
As a dedicated admirer of Rob Thomas’ work, I can truly say I understand his creative intentions. I yearn to witness him realizing his vision for Veronica Mars, where she stands alone as an outsider and detached from her former connections. After the Hulu season, I had hoped we would delve into what this independent path might look like. However, I fear that ending a beloved character’s life may have inadvertently hindered our progress. I can’t help but wonder if there’s an opportunity to revisit the storyline and bring his original ending to life, but it seems his vision may not have been fully realized.
Although it’s been five years since the fourth season of Veronica Mars was released on Hulu, I’ll make sure to issue a SPOILER ALERT for your safety.
Enrico Colantoni’s character, Logan Echolls, is the one being referred to here. Jason Dohring portrayed him as a main cast member throughout the series and the movie. Apart from Colantoni and Kristen Bell, they were the only two actors with this distinction. However, by the end of Veronica Mars Season 4, Logan was deceased. This happened shortly after he got married to Veronica and they were preparing for their honeymoon. A car bomb planted by Patton Oswalt’s Penn Epner, who was a copycat version of the Neptune Bomber, caused his demise.
Try this rephrased version:

Rob Thomas’ decision to kill off Logan was daring, yet according to Colantoni, it aligned with his creative vision for a potential fifth season. The fourth season ended with Veronica leaving Neptune to tackle cases while road-tripping across America, a concept reminiscent of the series “Poker Face” (available on Peacock). It would have been intriguing to see how the show would have adapted to this format had it continued.
It seems that Enrico Colantoni pondered the idea, and Thomas’ decision to kill Logan could have pushed things too far for Hulu, causing them to hesitate about renewing Season 5. However, given that Veronica Mars was brought back twice after its initial cancellation, there might be a point when Hulu reconsiders or finds a new platform for the series. In the meantime, Colantoni is staying active by starring in English Teacher, which airs on FX and can also be streamed on Hulu.
