Invincible’s Long Future Teased by Robert Kirkman

As a dedicated fan of Robert Kirkman‘s work, I can’t help but feel elated by the news that “Invincible” has the potential to run for many more seasons. Having been hooked on Kirkman’s previous comic book adaptation, “The Walking Dead,” for over a decade, I have come to appreciate his ability to create complex and captivating narratives that span multiple seasons.

Excitedly speaking as a fan, I can’t help but share my anticipation for more adventures in the universe of Invincible! Even though Season 3 hasn’t dropped yet, its creator, Robert Kirkman, envisions this captivating animated series having a long and prosperous run. Based on his graphic novel of the same name, Invincible tells the story of Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s the son of Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). After uncovering his own powers, Mark embarks on a journey to become a superhero and protect our world from an imminent, powerful menace.

Nevertheless, it’s crucial to acknowledge a significant concern: Omni-Man poses a danger! The superhero series, Invincible, has gained immense popularity and viewers are clamoring for additional seasons. Fortunately, their wishes are granted as the third and fourth seasons have been approved, with creator Kirkman anticipating that Invincible will continue to entertain audiences for several more years. Yet, Omni-Man’s menace remains a looming issue.

2024 at San Diego Comic Con’s Variety Studio, Kirkman shared his belief that the series will continue on Prime Video for some time, as Mark Grayson’s storyline is yet to be fully told. The creator also expressed enthusiasm about Season 4, which is being worked on, although he kept any specific details under wraps. Kirkman stated:

1. “It seems that we’re just beginning to delve deeper. I am optimistic that this series will continue for some time. In Season 4, we’re truly finding our rhythm. The upcoming season holds some genuinely thrilling developments.”

Although Robert Kirkman didn’t specify how many seasons he intends to complete his adaptation of the comics, some enthusiastic fans have made calculations suggesting the potential length of the show. The initial season of Invincible covered the first 13 issues from the comic books. In total, there are 144 issues of Invincible. Assuming no content is omitted, Kirkman would require approximately 22 seasons to fully adapt the graphic novels. Notably, Kirkman has a history of working on extended TV series; his previous comic book adaptation, The Walking Dead, ran for 11 seasons, with multiple spin-offs still in production.

Robert Kirkman Says Invincible Is an ‘Escalating Show’

In the last episode of Season 1, Mark, also known as Invincible, faced off against his father Omni-Man. The second season significantly increased the tension. Following Omni-Man’s departure from Earth, the Viltrumite Empire, the powerful alien race to which Omni-Man belongs, started plotting their takeover or destruction of our planet. Season 2 expanded the series’ scope, introducing new significant characters and deepening the world portrayed within it. Kirkman hinted that Seasons 3 and 4 will continue this expansion, making the first two seasons seem like a simple domestic drama in comparison. Kirkman stated:

In Season 2, we build upon the foundations laid in Season 1. The risks increase, the chaos intensifies, and various storylines foreshadow larger developments. These larger plots come to fruition in Season 3. However, Season 4 surpasses Season 3 with even more complexity and excitement. This series progressively becomes bigger, crazier, and more intense, with Season 3 marking a significant turning point.

Fans have gotten an initial peek at Season 3 of Invincible, according to Kirkman. Although a trailer may still be some time in the making, the first depiction of Mark Grayson has been unveiled. This illustration displays Grayson discarding his famous yellow and blue attire for a more ominous look, with the ‘i’ emblem now tinted dark blue and black.

The third season of Invincible doesn’t have a confirmed air date yet, but you can catch up with the previous seasons on Amazon Prime Video.
