Irrfan Khan’s last film, Angrezi Medium, hit theaters on March 13, 2020. Tragically, just a few weeks afterward, on April 29, 2020, this esteemed actor died at age 53 after battling a neuroendocrine tumor. In a recent conversation, his friend Vipin Sharma recalled their last encounter in London. Irrfan shared that he was experiencing significant pain yet laughing heartily, a sensation that is difficult to express.

During a conversation with Lallantop, Vipin Sharma recalled their last encounter with Irrfan Khan in London, noting that this meeting happened on the very same day when the actor started his chemotherapy treatment.

He mentioned that he had stopped by the hospital and headed up to the fourth level, where he was delighted to find a book by Rumi sitting next to Irrfan’s bed. Remarkably, even with his current state, Irrfan continued to engage in reading.

As I made my way into the hospital, it struck me that just moments before, Irrfan had ducked out for a quick coffee break. Our paths serendipitously crossed when I was heading in, and he was returning from his brief respite.

He recollected observing the actor enveloped in a shawl, and they exchanged a affectionate embrace prior to spending an extended period together within his hospital room. Vipin observed that Irrfan’s humor remained unaltered—he continued to laugh wholeheartedly, as he always did.

He mentioned that Irrfan’s mini fridge was filled to the brim with edibles. “He exclaimed, ‘Wow, look at all this food! I’m starving. Everyone must think I’m fine since I’m eating so much.’

Vipin mentioned that several Malayali nurses frequently had playful chats with Irrfan, sometimes even playing hopscotch together and participating in the game on occasion.

In that hospital room, everyone recognized him, and it essentially became his compact universe. This miniature cosmos was adorned with a variety of TV stations, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, thoughtfully arranged by some of his closest companions to ensure he remained amused.

As per Vipin’s account, Irrfan Khan maintained a sharp mental agility, keeping a keen eye on his surroundings and demonstrating a resilient fighting spirit throughout his ordeal. Despite experiencing tremendous pain, he continued to show curiosity and eagerness to learn more. Impressively, he even managed to finish a film following everything he had been through.
