Shows such as “The Pitt” have been praised and are thriving on streaming services like Max, indicating that the medical world’s turmoil can be more effectively explored beyond ABC or CBS. In response, Netflix has introduced a new medical drama on their platform. If you feel that “Grey’s Anatomy” might have run its course, this fresh series could offer a refreshing change, despite the sense of familiarity it brings.

Netflix recently introduced a new medical drama titled “Pulse” which was co-created by Zoe Robyn, with Carlton Cuse also contributing as a showrunner. If his name seems familiar to you, it might be because he has contributed to several significant shows like Lost, Bates Motel, The Strain, and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Early reviews are mixed, with some praising it highly while others find it struggling to emulate the style of “Grey’s Anatomy“. The Hollywood Reporter labeled it a “tantalizing medical drama” and suggested that it could satisfy one’s craving for “Grey’s Anatomy“.

Indeed, the series produced by Zoe Robyn bears a striking resemblance to another popular show, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. It combines medical drama with soap opera elements, offers a constant undercurrent of romantic tension, and presents an endless stream of cases that seem metaphorically convenient. Viewed from this perspective, it is not disappointing at all – it’s engaging enough to fulfill the same desire, even though it hasn’t quite earned a place among the great hospital shows yet.

While some critics didn’t find the series Pulse particularly impressive, pitting it against established medical dramas. The Chicago Tribune wasn’t smitten with the show but did appreciate the ensemble cast and drew parallels to a popular ABC drama. Collider was more critical, labeling it as an “uninspired attempt to mimic Grey’s Anatomy.” Variety was even harsher, stating that the Netflix medical drama Pulse is almost doomed from the start. However, if it gains popularity and shows any resemblance to Grey’s Anatomy, it could strike a chord with viewers.

The main cast includes Willa Fitzgerald, Colin Woodell, Jessie T. Usher, Justina Machado, Jack Bannon and Daniela Nieves.

For its inaugural season, the series titled Pulse features a talented ensemble of actors who may be familiar to you. Notably, Fitzgerald, who has been praised by critics, was seen in MTV’s Scream, Reacher, The Fall of the House of Usher, and the critically acclaimed horror production, Strange Darling. Colin Woodell has made appearances in Peacock miniseries, The Continental, and HBO Max mystery thriller, The Flight Attendant. Furthermore, Jessie T. Usher is well-loved for his role as A-Train on The Boys. Lastly, Machado has previously starred in the Netflix comedy series, One Day at a Time.
