'It Feels Audacious For Me To Speak Too Much,' Says Anna Faris About Getting To Work With Matthew Perry On Friends

As a dedicated fan of “Friends,” I can’t help but feel a deep sense of nostalgia and appreciation for this iconic sitcom. The series has been a constant source of joy and comfort in my life, and it continues to be a favorite among many viewers, even 20 years after its final episode.

Despite the fact that 20 years have passed since “Friends” went off the air, this beloved sitcom continues to captivate audiences and is still regarded as one of the greatest. Its popularity persists, with many fans rediscovering it on Max. Following Matthew Perry‘s unexpected passing last year, there has been renewed interest in the NBC series. Over its 10-season run, “Friends” featured numerous guest appearances, such as Anna Faris, who became a regular in the final season. Now, looking back on her experience with “Friends,” and working with Perry once more.

In Season 10, Faris entered “Friends” as Erica, a young pregnant woman from Ohio. She chose Monica and Chandler to adopt her baby despite some misunderstandings. Although she appeared in just four episodes, her character left a significant mark on the show. Monica and Chandler had long grappled with fertility problems, so Erica’s arrival signified the start of their family. Most of Faris’ scenes were shared with Perry, and she fondly reminisced about working with the late actor during an interview with “People,” expressing what a privilege it was for her.

I found it truly rewarding to meet such an extraordinary individual, even if our encounters were limited. I only wish I could have known them better. It’s humbling for me to express much about someone with whom I shared just a few moments, but those moments were nothing short of delightful. I’m grateful for having had the opportunity to be associated with them through this production.

I can’t help but feel disappointed that Erica, one of my favorite “Friends” side characters, didn’t make more appearances on the show. She’s been a fan-favorite since her early roles in movies like “Scary Movie” and “The Hot Chick.” Getting to see her on “Friends” was an exciting bonus for me as a viewer, and I’m sure many other fans felt the same way. It’s a shame we didn’t get to enjoy more of Erica’s presence in the series.

She had the privilege of collaborating primarily with Perry and Cox during her time on “Friends,” and she added that it was Cox who recommended her for the role of Erica. This made her experience even more meaningful, and regardless of its duration, she remained deeply honored and thankful to be a part of the show.

At the time, that’s what I believed based on our interaction. He mentioned having seen me in “Lost in Translation,” and he praised my acting abilities. Working with Courteney and Matthew was an awe-inspiring experience for me. They were incredibly kind individuals. Frankly, the notion of giving birth on Friends during its final season seemed daunting to me. Friends? An iconic sitcom? I couldn’t believe I would be part of it.

While Anna Faris only worked with Matthew Perry for a short period on “Friends,” it’s evident that he left a significant impression on her in real life, mirroring how her character influenced the show itself.

Another version: Marlo Thomas, who portrayed Ross’s mother on “Friends,” and Tom Selleck, who acted as Monica’s love interest, are among those who have shared heartfelt stories about Perry following his demise. Marlo reminisced about a touching moment when Perry looked at her with kindness and acknowledged her worth as an actor. Tom, in turn, revealed that Perry had to redo a line for him during the filming of their scenes together.

With streaming services, Max viewers have the ability to revisit cherished moments of Chandler Bing from “Friends” and encounter once more the show’s illustrious guest stars, such as Anna Faris. It’s heartwarming that personal recollections about Perry will continue to be shared, demonstrating time and again his unique charm and significance.
